HTC press conference

We’re on our way to the HTC press conference being held today in central London.

HTC June handset announcement.

Although the details of the event are a ‘closely guarded secret’ HTC is expected to announce a new Windows Mobile device based on the HTC Elf platform. However, this Elf will be rather unusual with a new feature – it’s expected to have a multitouch display and to be HTC’s answer to the Apple iPhone.

Other sources indicate the new multitouch display is even able to provide a tactile feedback when dialing.

We’ll be posting the details of the event as soon as we get back so come and have a look again this afternoon!

If you are going to the event, let us know and maybe we’ll see you there.

iPhone launch date announced

Apple yesterday confirmed that the much-anticipated iPhone will launch on 29 June in the US.

Apple iPhone

Apple iPhone

The date was given in a series of TV adverts broadcast on Sunday, and was later confirmed by a spokesman for the California-based company.

I did find this line rather amusing:

The adverts on Sunday showed off several of the gadget’s features, including surfing the net, watching videos and scrolling through e-mails using a finger as a pointer.

Have we not had touchscreen features on Windows Mobile devices for years? Surfing the net? Hardly new. No mention of being able to make phone calls on it though! 😛

Orange unlimited browsing – NOT unlimited?!

It seems like almost everyone has been talking about the new Orange unlimited data packages that are supposed to be available soon. Since our post last month with the Orange Press Release regarding their flat rate announcement, many people have been asking when they’ll be able to go on the tariff.

Orange

Orange have been hoping that the new ‘unlimited’ tariff will compete with T-Mobile’s Web’n’Walk and encourage some people to come back to Orange.

So what’s the limitation on the unmetered tariff? You’ll notice that it’s subject to a ‘fair use’ policy. Orange consider the fair use limit to be just 30MB!! If this is true then I have to say “Orange, what are you thinking?!”.

I’d hardly call 30MB ‘unlimited’ or ‘unmetered’, so like a lot of other people, I think I’ll be off to T-Mobile now!

The G900, sometimes refered to as the Portégé or Satellite, is badged as the Satellite in the FCC external images but I suspect that it will be sold under the Portégé name in the same way as its little brother, the G500.

    Toshiba G900 Specification:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional
  • 520mhz 32bit Intel XScale CPU

  • 1.9 megapixel camera
  • Biometric security

    Acer P630 Portable Navigator unboxed

EDIT: Our P630 review is now online HERE.

My parents recently decided that they wanted Sat Nav in their car. They would like something portable so that they can remove it from the car but didn’t like the idea of having a Smartphone or Pocket PC with with TomTom installed as they wanted to keep their current Nokia phones.

My initial thought was to get them a TomTom Go but these seem to be rather bulky so decided to see what else was available. That’s when I came across the Acer P630 portable navigator.

The P630 is a slim all-in-one navigation unit that includes CoPilot 6, built in GPS and a wide 4″ colour touch screen. With the Acer P630 you also get built in bluetooth for handsfree connectivity allowing you to connect your mobile phone, using the Acer as a speaker and microphone.

So I’m giving the Acer P630 a try at the moment and I’ll be posting my review soon. In the mean time, here’s an unbox video to show you what’s included in the package.

Download the WMV version of the video HERE.

  • 64 MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM
  • Hands-free Bluetooth
  • SD memory card slot
  • Lithium-Ion of 1200 mAh battery
  • Dimensions: 11.6 X 8.1 X 2.3 cm

    VITO AudioNotes updated

VITO Technology is glad to announce a next update for VITO AudioNotes – mp3 and wav recorder. As many of you already know most Windows Mobile Pocket PCs Phone Edition do not allow recording phone conversation. The new trick in VITO AudioNotes 1.3 provides phone calls recording on most Pocket PC Phone Edition devices.

    VITO AudioNotes

    VITO AudioNotes

In the new version you may choose to automatically turn on the speakerphone when calling. This enables VITO AudioNotes to record phone calls practically on all Pocket PC Phone Edition devices.

Now it takes just a sec to find a necessary recording. You just type a part of its name using on-screen keyboard on Pocket PC or dial buttons on Smartphones and the program displays only the recordings with the typed symbols. The most recent recordings always appear at the top of the list. The QuickRecord function on Pocket PC when you start recording by a single press of a hardware button now works faster.

It is also possible to rerecord an audio note from any point within. You just stop listening to a note at a point from which you want to record anew and press Stop. Now you can either continue listening or record anew from the stop point. Please note that after you press Resume > Record (in the drop-down menu for the given note) everything that was recorded to this audio note after the stop point earlier will be rerecorded.

VITO AudioNotes is available for $ 19.95 at http://vitotechnology.com. Updates are free for customers who purchased VITO AudioNotes within a year’s time.

VITO Technology ltd. is known for its high-tech products in the field of Windows Mobile and Symbian software, GPS navigation and custom projects. Introduced in the present article VITO AudioNotes is an easy to use MP3 and WAV recorder for PPC and Smartphones.

Download the software and try for free for 2 weeks.
