HTC announce the HTC Desire 816 and HTC Desire 610

HTC Desire 816_selfieWhilst we’re all eagerly awaiting news of HTC new HTC M8 aka ‘The All New HTC One’, in a smaller scale announcement today at MWC in Barcelona, HTC have just revealed two new mid-tier smartphones in their Desire range.

The HTC Desire 816 and HTC Desire 610 form part of the 2014 smartphone portfolio and will see their launch in March and May respectively.

HTC has become aware that the latest users of smartphones are content creators, not curators, so these devices have been built to provide consumers the perfect selfie machine for all their SnapChat, WhatsApp and social networking needs.

Two powerful cameras make the HTC Desire 816 ideal for photography lovers. A 13MP rear-facing camera complete with HTC Zoe™ and automatic highlight videos, as well as a 5MP front-facing camera, make it the perfect device for capturing both portraits and stunning landscapes in amazing quality.

The HTC Desire 610 has also been created as a great value, compact entertainment hub. The handset comes packed with a host of features for an incredible mobile audio and visual experience.

Both the 610 and 810 are recognisable HTC phones with front facing BoomSound speakers, beautiful design and similar software features to the leading One range including Zoe, BlinkFeed and Video Highlights.

HTC Desire 500 hands-on in White

htc-desire-500-white-blueBack in September of this year, HTC launched a new Android smartphone under the much-used Desire name, the HTC Desire 500.

This new phone featured much of the software improvements from the popular HTC One but in a somewhat more affordable package.

When the Desire 500 first went on sale the all-black version was the first to land and we had an early hands-on with that model. Since then two further versions have become available; White with blue-trim and white with red-trim.

These are essentially the same hardware spec but it’s surprising just how different the phone can appear from a simple colour change. We wouldn’t normally return to a device just because of a colour change but as the Desire 500 has just had an Android update and has been so popular on PAYG tariffs we thought it was worth another look.

In the video below, Gareth takes a brief break from his painting-by-numbers to have a closer look at the HTC Desire 500 in white clothing. The phone, not Gareth in white clothing…

HTC Desire C Review

creditHTC Desire C ReviewIn the not too distant past the ‘Desire’ range of smartphones from HTC were their flagship range, this was until MWC 2012 when HTC announced the excellent ‘One Series’. At that point I didn’t think that we would see a Desire branded handset from HTC again, but to my utter surprise here I have the brand new Desire C for review.

It’s the beginning of a new range of devices from HTC aimed at giving absolutely everyone a chance to own an Android smartphone on any budget.

So how does this little device fair against its competitors? And does it do the Desire brand name the justice it no doubt deserves?

Well to find out you will have to read on.

HTC Desire HD Review

HTC Desire HD ReviewThe HTC Desire HD is possibly the biggest and best Android Smartphone we have seen to date here in the UK. Some will say that the Samsung Galaxy is better. The Galaxy may have a nicer screen but the difference in build quality between the two devices is like chalk and cheese. The desire HD oozes solidness unlike its rival.

With an 4.3 inch screen the Desire HD is the natural progression on from the HD2 which ran Windows Mobile. We also have the HTC HD7 out now running Windows Phone 7 but with its lack of customisation I think the Desire HD could be number one.

As we have been swamped by Android devices in the last 18 months I will try to focus on the unique and best features of the Desire HD. Frankly, doing the same screen shots on every new Android phone is getting on my nerves. However we are about to endeavor exactly the same issue with WP7. I need a holiday!

HTC Desire review

HTC Desire review Ever since I first saw the HTC Desire, a week before MWC, I’ve been thinking that it could well be the handset that I’d use on a daily basis. Indeed there has been some discussion here at tracyandmatt about who will be doing the review. However, as I was the one to review the Nexus One I’ve pulled rank and it’ll be mine to review!

I’m sure that many will look at the HTC Desire and think of it as being simply HTC’s own version of the Google Nexus One and I guess in some respects that could be a fair assessment but is it as simple as that? There are a few differences under the hood and plenty within the user interface that make the HTC Desire look and feel quite different. We’ll talk about those differences as we go but probably the main differences are the optical trackpad and buttons on the Desire where the Nexus One has a trackball, single mic on the Desire vs the dual noise-cancelling mics on the Nexus One and finally HTC’s own sense UI on the Desire where there is a more ‘vanilla’ Android experience on the Nexus One.

So does the HTC Desire meet expectations? Read on to find out… (a word of caution, there are a LOT of images but you can click on any one for a full-sized view.)
