PDA’s and Smartphones banned from Alton Towers

image Alton Towers Resort will be piloting a "PDA Free Zone" during May Half Term to encourage parents to disconnect from the office and reconnect fully with their families. PDA police will be onsite to enforce the ban and any adult caught using a PDA whilst at the Resort will be asked to report to one of five "PDA Drop Off Zones" where they can safely leave their PDA’s for the day. If the scheme is successful, it will be introduced full time.

Russell Barnes, Divisional Director for the Alton Towers Resort explains; "What we have here is the ultimate short break location where every member of the family can unwind and have fun. We feel it’s so important for parents and kids to focus on nothing more than having the best possible time, we are prepared to take drastic action to ensure that parents really leave their work behind!"

image There are two viewpoints here as far as I can see, so I discussed this with Sharon and we came out with two totally different opinions, no suprise there then 😉

1) In my opinion this is not a good idea, we are all busy people and have the choice to answer our phones or reply to email whenever we choose, standing in line for a ride, which is always the case at Alton Towers can be mind numbingly boring so a quick look at the web or reply to an email is a great way to kill a bit of time. I do understand the reasons behind it but we are all sensible enough to make our own choices and not have another rule to adhere to.

2) Sharon totally agrees with it and feels that mobile technology takes up far too much time in our busy lives already. When visiting these places we are going out as a family which we don’t do enough and having me constantly checking email, twitter friends and text messages is a distraction and spoiling the day out.

So there you go two differing views, what do you think??
