O2 offering up personalised voicemail – by Brian Blessed

O2 has recruited acting heavyweight, Brian Blessed – he of the sonorous voice and even mightier volume – to record a series of bespoke voicemail messages exclusively for them on the new Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S by HTC.

Well known for his Kingly portrayals, Brian Blessed is perhaps best loved for his roles as Prince Vultan in Flash Gordon – for which he is frequently remembered for the famous line “Gordon’s Alive?” – and as King Richard IV in the first series of The Black Adder.

Blessed is now lending his thundering voice to O2 to mark the launch of two new Windows Phone 8 handsets by HTC which, with their customisable interfaces and personalised “live tiles”, allow people to truly tailor their mobile phones.

The first 100 customers who buy either a new Windows Phone 8S by HTC or Windows Phone 8X by HTC between Monday 28th January and Monday 4th February and tweet @O2 using hashtag #brianmail will get a personalised voicemail recorded by Prince Vultan himself.   Brian, who’s taking time out from DIVE-ing and discovering Gordon isn’t dead, will be creating completely individual messages based on the person’s name and their interests, meaning no two messages will be alike.

And, once the messages have been recorded, they’ll be transferred directly onto the customers’ voicemail in high quality – no pressing a phone up against a speaker.  Customers will even be sent the recording by email too.

Brian Blessed said “I’m thrilled to be lending my vocal talents to the good folk at O2.  I’m planning to have a lot of fun with the voicemail messages, and leave the caller amused, confused and generally bewildered.”

David Johnson, General Manager Devices for O2 in the UK commented “Brian Blessed’s a cult hero and a voicemail message by him will make our customers’ new Windows Phone 8 by HTC phones even more personalised than before.

“Recording a good voicemail is always tricky and having a national treasure like Brian record yours for you is a chance that doesn’t come by all that often.”

The offer is available for a week from 00:01 Monday 28 January to 00:01 Monday 4 February. To enter, customers can either buy a Windows Phone 8X by HTC or Windows Phone 8S by HTC from an O2 store or over the phone or online then must tweet @O2 using hashtag #brianmail to say they’ve purchased the phone.

The O2 Twitter team will then do a couple of checks, including proof of purchase checks, and will be back in touch with successful entrants.

Voicemails will be recorded in March to allow for the 14 day cooling off period to elapse – for full terms and conditions, visit http://o2lin.kr/brianmail
