Apple iOS upgrade next week

Apple have today announced that iOS 4.1 will be available to download next week and will bring a few bug fixes as well as new features.

The bug fixes will address Bluetooth and proximity sensor issues which is good news if you have had problems. I certainly have not though.

HDR photos is a great new photography feature. I will try to summaries:

Imagine you take a photo and part of the picture has very washed out colours. HDR will take three separate shots each at different exposure levels and merge into one giving you a fantastic crisp photograph bursting with colour. A great idea if you are a keen snapper with your iPhone.

In addition you will now be able to record 720P HD video and upload to YouTube over Wi-Fi. This one is a god send. It was a real pain having to export video to the PC or Mac first.

Game Centre is another new feature which we will cover in more detail in a later post. As well as being able to challenge your friends to play games with you there will be some new titles including Project Sword which looks truly amazing.

iOS 4.2 will come later in the year and this will be all about iPad. Then we will get all the current iPhone features on the iPad such as multi tasking and folders. I am a bit disappointed we didn’t get that today but that’s life. It should be with us for November.
