HTC Touch Pro vs HTC TyTN II

Since our review of the HTC Touch Pro just a few days ago many of you have been in touch to ask how it compares to the HTC TyTN II and if it's worth upgrading from the TyTN II to the Touch Pro.

I previously had an HTC TyTN II and switched over to the HTC Touch Diamond a few months ago. While I do like the Diamond I really missed the QWERTY keyboard as I send an awful lot of email. When the Pro came in the scene it seemed like the answer to my prayers, a modern Diamond-like device with a hardware keyboard.

I've spent the last week switching between the Diamond and the Touch Pro. I like the size and weight of the Diamond but for me the Pro makes a lot more sense. The Pro works a lot quicker and smoother than the Diamond and with it's higher-res screen and more modern lighter design beats the TyTN II in my opinion.

However, whether it's worth spending £500+ of your hard earned upgrading from the TyTN II to the Touch Pro is debatable. What does the Pro have over the TyTN II? Well you get the VGA screen and TouchFlo 3D interface. It's a slightly smaller package and is about 25-30 grams lighter. Both have GPS, Windows Mobile 6.1 and QWERTY keyboards.

It's a tough call but personally I'll be putting my Diamond and TyTN II on eBay to pay for the Touch Pro!

Have a look at some of the comparison shots below and see for yourself.

Matt, great comparison but you are missing the slide out keyboard comaprison as well as the "Tilt" functionality that is missing in the Touch Pro.

Personally, I think tilt is useless - it only makes mechanism complex... and easily to break.

I'm so afraid to buy it over the net ... I'll pay with the card - and what if I don't get it the next day((( I guess I just have to believe in devicewire... In Russia this system of buying online is so unstable... that's why I decided to buy it in UK... but can't wait for store announcement...

sorry for my nagging, guys

Doug,

True I didn't mention the tilt not being present on the Pro but this isn't a feature that I use so I guess I overlooked it.

Other than resolution, how does the screen compare to the or better yet, an iPhone? I really hate walking out in daylight and not being able to see my phoone or unlock it. A better display in daylight would seal the deal for me.

I use the "tilting" feature of the Tytn II al the time... I basically sit it on my desk, right in front of my desktop computer's keyboard, flip the screen up so I can easily see it, and all of the "non work related activities" are done on the Tytn II.
The feature is so important to me that I will be keeping my Tytn II for use at work even after I but the Touch Pro (SIM swap every day).

Given that the Touch Pro has a faster processor, but smaller battery ...

how does overall battery life compare between the two models?

I personally sees a need for touch pro to have tilt screen for ease of use. The sliding mechanism needs some improvement as well by incorporating a locking mechanism so that the touch pro will feel more handy as well as to have a more solid feels.

Well, its a matter of opinion and taste, but I'm seeing you biased towards the Pro. Maybe because you're a person who appreciates style, a position I respect :)

For me, the Pro is very interesting, but I don't see myself paying for it since I have the Kaiser. The big let-downs for me are:
- No tilt screen (Yes, there're people who love this feature!)
- No jog wheel (extremely important!)
- Less buttons (I usually modify all available buttons on a device :) )

A true upgrade for the Kaiser for me shouldn't miss any of those three!
I do like, however, the VGA screen, the TV out option, USB-OTG option, faster processor, and more memory on the Pro.

Thanks :)

I recently upgraded from the Tilt to the Touch Pro and I must say I definitely miss both the titling feature and the scroll wheel. I think they need to reissue the Pro with these features.
