HTC Hermes USB connector pin config

I've been asked over and over again "what is the pin configuration of the USB connector on the SPV M3100" and what are the "TyTN connector pinout specs".
Rather than saying "I don't know" I decided to work it out!
The above diagram is of the EMU plug viewed end-on.
Enhanced Mini USB (EMU) connectors are double sided. One side carry's the USB signal data while the other carries audio signals. The pin config is as follows.
Data
Audio
You can find Enhanced Mini USB connectors on a variety of devices. The above config covers the USB configuration of the Orange SPV M3100, HTC TyTN, Vodafone v1605, HTC Oxygen devices and HTC Meteor devices and probably many more.
Use at your own risk though, play safe!

Thanks for the info.
Current theory is that it works like this:
If power is detected and a usb connection is negotiated on the data lines, charge.
If power is detected and a usb connection is not detected, don't charge . (Theres a bug where it will accept some charge at least the first time only you connect power, then you have to reset).
If power is detected and usb connection is not detected BUT pin's A and B are bridged then allow 'dumb' charging.
No idea why they've done this but the behavior fits the theory.
One question though. How does the unit detect headphones are inserted? Obviously it's not anything in the mic/vol box as you cut it off.. does the 'EMU' connector on the headphones bridge any pins on the USB side you're aware of?
Thank you
prefereably 30cm long, then we can make our own, charge cable for the car, as well as audio in and out.
It might hellp if you also adress the question direct to HTC Support
Kind regards
This would be great for in-car use, having the sound over your car amp and have the device charged at the same time !
Thats all I really wanted to say, the information you have here is very useful and has saved me sitting around with a scope working it out.
As for plugs, I didn't want to mutilate any of the original accesories, but if we can't buy them anywhere I guess this is the only choice.
As for the power pins question this is simple a case of juice.
If I plug the USB cable into a HTC device, then plug that usb cable into a usb port and just wire that up to a bench power supply... the device draws a few hundred milliamps. (As much as USB spec allows).
This device, much like other mobile devices I have used which USB charge, can barely draw enough power of the USB to run itself let alone charge the battery.
However, if you close the A/B pins you are telling the phone "This is not a USB port, its a 1A power brick" so the phone charges the battery at its maximum safe rate.
This behaviour is stop the phone frying your usb ports.
I notice there was also a question asked about the headset.
As its obviously not a physical switch in the connector and there doesn't seem to be any spare pins to signal an official headset is inserted, it must simply go on the current drawn through the speaker.
Think about it, if I'm playing sound into a headphone socket with nothing plugged into it, no electricity will flow anywhere, but plug in an 8ohm speaker and suddenly you've completed the circuit, current flows through it.
The way to test this would be a variable resistance with a large range, perhaps a resistance box.
Start with lots of resistance and slowly slide your way down to a few ohms, then back up again. You should be able to locate thresholds at which the device considers the headset connected/disconnected.
Since looking up the pinouts for this device yesterday, and discovering the plugs are impossible to find, I found a headset and had the plug of it.
Firstly your pinout is great and useful.
Secondly now I've dismantled the plug on the headset I can see that pin4 is linked internally to pinA (gnd) in the plug assembly and this is how the device detects a headset connection, by grounding pin4.
I discovered this completely by accident, after using the plug from the headset to make a new charger I discovered I couldn't get sound from the device if this new charger is plugged in.
Cutting the pin4 connection solved the problem.

So, both DATA and AUDIO wires are actually present in the provided headset ?
Is there a device that will allow me to insert a 'dongle' into the PC USB port (instead of the headset), and then connect the headset to another dongle 'dongle1'. The purpose would be to create a wireless connection between 'dongle' and 'dongle1'.
Apologies for the terminology.

Especially to Carlos who gave the tip on using standard
usb in the HTC proprietary one..really got me in out of a hole when I forgot to bring my charging cable on my business trup.

Have you any thoughts on which of these I sould connect to the 6 pin Audio USB? (I have got the 5 pin sorted)
Thanks
Mike
HTC P3600 has an RS-232 interface. Is this
correct? Is it possible to make a cable from
this pin-out. Is there a cable available?
Thanks
Hanspeter
I am trying to find a best way of connecting both these inputs to a HTC TyTN Enhanced Mini USB, so I would have both charging and sound.
I had an idea just to open the car kit and solder an external cable with an Enhanced Mini USB, so it could be just plugged directly into the phone.
My question is, have somebody find a place where to buy the ExtUSB blank connector or may be a cable that would include all 11 leads (both for power and sound)?
Thanks,
Michael
Where can you buy a 11 pin ExtUSB plug to make a custom cable?
Thanks much
Thanks
Has anybody found/tried this cable yet?

Seems to an HTC own brand product...
Check it out!
Thanks.

1. All the headset for the HTC PDA's with mini-USB connector is compatible with Touch?(I'm not found dedicated headset for Touch in my country, but I found headset for HTC TyTN for example...)
2. A bluetooth stereo headset is a better solution? (It's more expensive, eat more battery, but not affect the connector - this connector faults on a frecvent usage...this is true?).
3.Is a big differences in battery comsumption between a wire headset and a bluetooth headset?
Please help me...and thank you.
Is it an output from the phone that turns something on? Or would whatever is plugged into it actually close the switch to activate something in the phone.
Any thoughts are welcome.
thanks
