new-chelsea-home-kit

Samsung Electronics today announced the launch of its ‘Dream the Blues’ campaign alongside Chelsea FC, providing youngsters with a once-in-a-lifetime football experience. The ‘Dream the Blues’ campaign, spanning eight countries across four continents, aims to encourage football-loving children, aged from nine to 13, to develop and achieve their football dreams. The initiative is an expansion of the Samsung-Chelsea FC Youth Football Camp programme, which has already benefited 5,000 children across the world since 2007.

Throughout the campaign, Samsung and Chelsea will visit youth football camps across the eight countries to provide training for local children to learn ‘The Chelsea Way’ from Chelsea Foundation coaches. From each of the local camps, the 16 most passionate participants will be selected to attend the Blues Camp in London to train and meet with the Chelsea players. The final camp will also offer successful participants the opportunity to build global friendships through football.

Applications will be given to Samsung Home Appliance customers in Mexico, Nigeria, Ghana, Republic of South Africa, China, Thailand, Brazil and Turkey. The campaign kicked off in Mexico on December 21, and local youth football camps will run in each country, ending in Turkey in April, 2013. The final Blues Camp will take place in London in May, 2013.

All the UK’s major networks are will be available, (EE, Three, O2 and Vodafone) so like the big rival Tesco, the full range or products and services will be on offer.

The deal has been struck in conjunction with A1 Comms who will supply the airtime and 20:20 Mobile who will supply the devices. To entice customers; Sainsbury’s are offering customers 2,500 Nectar card points with a new contract.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: ‘We’re always looking at ways to serve our customers better and we are trialing moving our mobile phone offer into a new dedicated location within our Letchworth and King’s Lynn stores.

It’s early days for Sainsbury’s and we don’t yet have prices or the full range of devices, but it is rumored that they haven’t yet had the go-ahead from Apple to sell the iPhone. We will of course update you when more is known. Great to see another Supermarket taking the bull by the horns.

Vodafone introduce ‘Nearly New’ – offering better deals for customers

Voda Logo

Vodafone has launched ‘Nearly New’, offering pre-owned smartphones at a discount for pay as you go (PAYG) and pay monthly (PAYM) customers. It makes it more affordable for customers to get their hands on a smartphone, helping to increase take-up of the mobile internet among the mass-market (rather than being aimed at early adopters or people who already have a smartphone). We’re particularly targeting pay as you go users who have yet to make the leap to a smartphone (smartphone take-up among new pay monthly customers is over 90% already).

Crucially, all pay as you go ‘Nearly New’ handsets come with a 12 month warranty and all pay monthly ‘Nearly New’ handsets have a 24 month warranty. It’s worth noting that currently the majority of pre-owned smartphones that are used in the UK have been bought from eBay.

For PAYG customers it means they can get a smartphone at a reduced up-front cost (saving up to £155) and for pay monthly customers it means they can get a smartphone on a cheaper monthly price plan.

Nearly New is available for PAYG across all our stores now and will be launched online next week. It’s available in selected stores for pay monthly customers and also online.

Is this Sony’s next Xperia flagship device?

Xperia-Z

With CES kicking off next week in the USA, Sony are expected to announce the Xperia Z at their press conference on Monday evening. The image to the right has been leaked and the device looks to quite a beauty. Believed to have a 5 inch display, a 13MP camera and running Android 4.1 it could be time for Sony to regain some market share from the likes of Samsung?

If the image is indeed correct I’m loving the fact that Sony have ditched hardware buttons on the front of the handset and everything is now on screen.

Roll on next week for confirmation.

A (belated) Happy New Year!

I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year.

Regular visitors my have noticed the uncharacteristic lack of new items over the past week. Unfortunately both James and myself were really ill over the Christmas period so have been out of action.

However, normal service will shortly be resumed.

Lots of good things planned for this year too so watch this space!
