RIM launch BlackBerry Mobile Fusion

rim-research-in-motion-logo

RIM has now officially released the entire BlackBerry Mobile Fusion solution, including the Universal Device Service. Similar to how BlackBerry Device Service provides a set of security and management features for BlackBerry PlayBook tablets, the Universal Device Service provides Mobile Device Management for iOS and Android based devices.

Now let’s be clear: this does not turn a random phone into a BlackBerry smartphone! BlackBerry® Enterprise Server (conveniently accessible through Mobile Fusion’s unified, web-console, Mobile Fusion Studio) pushes out 500+ IT policies to BlackBerry smartphones. This is the champagne of enterprise mobility solutions, giving organizations back-end integration and end-to-end security that only BlackBerry offers; accessed through feature rich BlackBerry smartphones in a multitude of form factors that end-users desire.

As more devices come to market, however, IT managers need to accommodate individually purchased units that come into the enterprise, whether by a sales rep deciding to expense the latest handset, a doctor bringing in their personal phone for hospital work, or a field worker getting whatever’s available on special as a replacement unit. Universal Device Service offers you – if not a champagne solution – perhaps a Cava or Prosecco. And, given how individual-liable devices are typically used, this is often quite sufficient. BlackBerry Mobile Fusion finally gives you a solution, managed from a single web-console, to deal with the influx of personal-liable devices in the enterprise and ensures that a range of suitable security mechanisms are in place.

HTC One X: Extended hands-on video and review

HTC One X_rgb_thumbAnnounced at Mobile World Congress in February the HTC One X is the companies latest flagship Android device and what a beauty it is. Sporting a 4.7 inch HD 720p touch screen, 1.5 GHz, quad-core processor and running Android 4.0, HTC can be proud of their latest creation.

With these top end specs the handset is complemented with some great software and superb camera hardware including Sense 4.0, NFC, Beats Audio, 8 megapixel camera with auto focus and full 1080p HD video recording.

Due to us initially having the device for less time than we normally do I have decided to do a video review instead of a written one. I am sure I will have missed a few things out in the video but if you are looking to pick up the One X this should give you a pretty good insight to most of its features.

So click the ‘read more’ below to see the device put through its paces and my final conclusion.

HTC One X unboxing video

htc-one-x The HTC One X is the first of three new Android phones from the HTC stable to announced at MWC this year. All three will carry the “One” name but we’re starting off with the biggest. The One X has a whopping 4.7″ display manages to cram in 720×1280 pixels. It may sound like it’s going to be a monster in terms of size but HTC’s clever design and styling means that it really doesn’t look or feel as big as you might think.

The HTC One X is all about performance and thanks to the QUAD-core 1.5GHz CPU it doesn’t disappoint in this department either. Check out the benchmark results in the video below but I can tell you we’ve ended up with the highest benchmark numbers ever seen.

There’s no Micro-SD card slot on the One X but fortunately there’s 32GB of internal memory to store your photos and media.

You can find the unboxing and first impression video below and we’ll have another video for you later on where we’ll look at some of the other features in more detail.

Archos 101 G9 Unboxing Video

archos101g9icsArchos have been confusing the market lately by releasing a new version for their current line almost every month. This original version for the Archos 101 G9 weighs in with a Dual Core 1ghz processor, 512mb of RAM and 8gb of storage, Essentially what we are looking at is the original, basic version of their flagship device however over the last six months there has been a number of revisions to the specifications for you to consider.

The Archos 101 comes in four flavours, with roughly three variants of each flavour.

  1. Archos 101 G9 – Dual Core OMAP4, 1ghz, 512mb RAM with the option of storage size. 8/16gb flash or 250gb HDD storage
  2. Archos 101 G9 Turbo – Dual Core, 1.2ghz, 512mb RAM, 8 / 16 / 250gb storage
  3. Archos 101 G9 Turbo 1.5 – Dual Core, 1.5ghz 512mb RAM, 8 / 16 / 250gb storage
  4. Archos 101 G9 Turbo 1.5 – Dual Core, 1.5ghz, 1gb RAM, 8 / 16 / 250gb storage

Quite a lot of choice. Each model weighs in at a different price point however it might be more difficult to find the first options and even then it might be old/unsold stock. There is no 3G/Wi-Fi option as with many other tablets on the market. Instead Archos have given the customer the option to upgrade to 3G later if they so choose buy purchasing a 3G modem USB stick that slips snugly into the USB host port on the back.

The Archos tablet puts video playback first, and always has. Armed with a host of licensed codec’s the Archos will playback any and all major video formats you throw at it. The Archos also has SMB and other network storage streaming features built into it’s native video player to make it just that little bit easier to handle media servers.

It is important to note the unboxing features Android Honeycomb, however the final review will feature Ice Cream Sandwich.
