Sony Xperia S release date confusion

Xperia S

There seems to be quite a bit of chatter around the Xperia S release date following Play.com listing it as January.

The official line is that Sony have only ever communicated the first week of March with all customers and distributors.

Clearly this may well change as these things do but if you are waiting out for what looks to be a great Android device you may have a longer wait than expected.

Nice phone though!

Facebook and Twitter for BlackBerry to become BBM connected apps

Facebook_Twitter

The chaps over at crackberry.com have today posted that it looks like both Facebook and Twitter for BlackBerry will soon become BBM connected apps. The number of connected apps has really grown since BlackBerry 7 was introduced and while I personally may not want all my Twitter and Facebook updates to be posted on my BBM status it will certainly be a nice option to have.

Nice work RIM. Now lets get some beta versions out please!

Demand for paid Android sat-nav app continues to rise despite free navigation tools

CoPilot_Android1-46985-46986

CoPilot Live, the leading sat-nav app has reported an overall 40% year on year rise in sales of its Android app (Q4 2011 vs Q4 2010). With a record 1.2bn app downloads over Christmas, and Google recently announcing over 250 million Android devices have now been activated – the Android app market is clearly booming, and the growing demand for high-quality Android sat-nav apps comes despite the free navigation solution pre-installed on most devices.

I know have CoPilot Live for Android so expect a review in the coming weeks.

David Quin from CoPilot Live says; “With Google maps, many people thought that there wouldn’t be much of a market for paid for sat-nav apps on Android devices. However, we’re seeing monthly app sales volumes continue to grow, illustrating that Android users are increasingly looking for solutions which offer more than the free software they have already. It also shows a growing willingness for Android users to pay for apps with genuinely useful features, despite a previous focus on free apps.”

BlackBerry is the best selling smartphone in the UK – again!

BB Logo

We all know that over the last couple of years Blackberry sales have declined in some parts of the world, in particular North America. RIM have been under constant critism but here in the UK things couldn’t be more different.
In 2010 the BlackBerry was the UK’s best selling smartphone and once gain the Canadian company have done it again in 2011.
Nearly every teenager I see out on the street is using a BlackBerry and with the Blackberry Internet Service only costing £5 per month it is obvious why they choose BlackBerry. For your £5 you get unlimited BBM, email and web access. With the Blackberry Curve 8520 available from a little over £100 on PAYG this fits perfectly into the social networking lifestyle that most of us have now adopted and take for granted.
With RIM releasing new devices on a pretty regular basis and now with the choice of Touchscreen handsets, wonderful QWERTY keyboards and a combination of both on the Torch 9800 and 9810 I’m frankly not surprised that the ‘sensible’ UK people have adopted BlackBerry as the platform of choice.
