Asus to shake up the netbook game

slidertransformerlead-550x248

A new rumour has surfaced from DigiTimes reporting ASUS is looking to evolve their netbook game in 2011 with either Chrome OS or – our precious – Android. It’ll be on the affordable side with pricing expected to sit anywhere between £150 and £200. They’re claiming it’ll be a 10 or 11 inch netbook.

ASUS has already shown their Android-based netbook card – they debuted tablet/netbook hybrids at CES this year called the Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider (both pictured above). This would be a more traditional netbook, though, which makes things a bit interesting.

As far as processor technology goes, it’s believed that Intel’s established Atom series will be powering things under the hood, though which chipset exactly wasn’t said. While Chrome OS may be a better fit for a traditional netbook experience, Android has quickly become an easily-marketable household name and – to be quite honest – it can do a lot more than Chrome OS can in its current state. We’ll be keeping an eye out for further announcements from ASUS.

Today ZTE announced their 2010 annual results and the news is excellent. Following a ‘surge’ sales are up by 50% in the US and Europe.

Palm Pre 2 Review

Pre2 cards leftLets face it, the original Palm Pre was a huge fail. WebOS was and still is a great OS but paired with awful hardware, a bad camera and poor marketing  the Pre sold about as well as a pile of dog poop for £1000. Okay, I may be exaggerating a little but the original Pre just wasn’t a success.

So, has HP’s take over of Palm, webOS 2.0 and slightly new hardware done anything to make the Pre 2 more attractive? Should you get the Pre 2 even though the Pre 3 is just around the corner or will the sequel go the way of the original?

Read on to find out!

Media Sync on the BlackBerry PlayBook

blackberry_logo

intomobile.com have this week filmed a rather interesting video with the BlackBerry PlayBook. We have known for a while that the PlayBook will sync media just like any other Blackberry using the BlackBerry Desktop Software but we have not seen it in action.

As you will see in the video below the syncing process is just the same as it is currently with BlackBerry Smartphones, but where the PlayBook comes into its own is with its superb multitasking skills. If you currently use an iPod or iPhone for example you will be familiar with the fact that when you sync you must wait for the process to be complete before you can do anything else with the device. Things are a little different with PlayBook. Once the sync starts it will carry on syncing in the background allowing you to carry on using the PlayBook for other tasks. Nice.

You can see the demo below:

Seenda Power Magic unboxing video

Music Magic Sometimes simple-but-effective accessories come along and it’s easier to show you them with a video than a wordy post. The Seenda Power Magic is one of those accessories.

In essence it performs three functions:

  • It’s an FM transmitter so can be used to listen to music from your iPhone/iPod in your car (it also works with other MP3 players thanks to the 3.5mm headphone jack).
  • It’s an emergency charger; the 1300mAh battery will let you charge a iPhone/iPod or other USB powered device.
  • Finally it’s a hands-free car kit; Using the FM transmitter and the built in mic you can use the Power Magic for hands-free calling.

To show you a bit more of the Power Magic I recorded a quick video which you can see below.
