Nokia N85 unboxed

We recently started looking a a couple of Nokia handsets and have already reviewed the Nokia N96 and unboxed the Nokia N79. This time we are unboxing the new Nokia N85. The N85 is kinda similar to the N96, with a few exceptions, one being that the N85 doesn’t have the on-board memory that the N96 has.

Our reviewer, Dan, is trying out the N85 and N79 as we speak so the reviews will be online soon. For now here’s the unbox:

Nokia N85 unboxed

The Nokia N85 is pre-loaded with at least 10 made-for-mobile N-Gage gaming titles and a voucher to activate one full game license. Dedicated gaming keys light up when the device is in landscape gaming mode to further enhance the action-packed experience.
A state-of-the-art 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and bright dual LED flash captures clear, sharp images as well as DVD-quality videos at 30 frames per second. Combined with A-GPS it is possible to geotag favorite pictures to see where each photo was taken using the Nokia Maps application or online sites such as Share on Ovi or Flickr.
Each Nokia N85 comes with an 8 GB microSD card, up to 30 hours of music playback time and its high-fidelity sound means favorite tracks can be enjoyed virtually anywhere. You can even enjoy RDS radio or a wide selection of stations via the internet. The 3.5 mm audio jack makes connecting a top-quality headset simple and an in-built FM transmitter lets the Nokia N85 play wirelessly through a car or home stereo to really crank up the sound.

Therefore the Nokia N85 is perfect for the mobile user, who wants top end fatures and functionality and complete connectivity when away from the office or home.

Nokia N79 unboxed

We haven’t looked at too many Nokia handsets here on T&M but it seems that the gap between Nokia and Windows Mobile is closing rapidly in terms of Web and Email functionality so we thought it was about time that we covered more. Here we are looking at the Nokia N79 which it a neat looking candy bar style device with a fixed numeric keypad. We’ll also be looking at the N85 soon and, if you are a regular here, you’ll know that we also reviewed the N96 recently.

N79_main

The Nokia N79

As always, we’ll road test the N79 for a week or so and will come back with out review once we’ve had a chance to use it in the real world. For now, take a look at the unboxing and quick tour video below.

Nokia N79 unboxed

Sorry for the abrupt ending to the video above, the last 10 seconds of the recording were corrupt on the camera’s memory card. Not much missed though, just the last items on the specification (which you can see below) and the summary.

The Nokia N79 has a 5 mega-pixel camera & Carl Ziess optics that lets you capture moments in amazing clarity. The dual LED flash lets you take photographs even in the poorest lighting conditions. Geo Tag support automatically records the location of your photos, see when and where your photo’s were.

With an intuitive design to suite your look you can choose between the colour schemes thanks to three cool colour combinations which magically match your cover and your theme. Move and your screen moves with you.

Explore the world and share your discoveries with the Nokia N79. The built in AGPS technology & Nokia maps software provides instant navigation, on foot or by car, letting you find your way to a destination quickly and easily. An extensive POI (Points Of Interest) database lets you find new places around you, find cinema’s, clubs, bars or even cash points.

The Nokia N79’s high speed 3G (HSDPA) and Wi-Fi connectivity let you stay in touch.  Whether it is downloading your emails or the latest news articles from BBC the fast connections on board mean you are always connected.

With a 4GB microSDHC memory card provided there is plenty of space to store all your music or media files.  So whether it’s the latest songs, downloaded straight to your mobile of photos captured on the 5 megapixel camera you are unlikely to run out of sufficient storage space for such.

Nokia N79 specification:

Sanyo Xacti HD1010 unboxed

We’ve been looking at lots of camcorders lately and, if you read our group test report, you’ll know that we were particularly impressed with the Sanyo Xacti HD700. The only criticism of the HD700 was that it isn’t full HD supporting 1280×720 only. For many, this wouldn’t be a big problem, especially when you consider the cost but we wondered what spending the extra cash on the HD1000 got us.

I’ve been using the HD1000 for a few months and I’m very happy with it. However just a few weeks ago Sanyo launched the HD1010. This has additional features over the HD1000, including both 60p and 60i modes as well as high speed 300fps mode and an uprated sensor.

Nokia N96 unboxed

When the Nokia N95 came out more than 18 months ago it was pretty much an over night success. It was also one of the first devices that I recorded an unboxing video of.

Since then there have been a couple of versions of the N95 and then a few months ago Nokia announced the updated N96. It’s taken a little while to get my hands on one but finally managed to get my hands on one earlier this week.

N96_main

Nokia N96

I thought the best way to cover the N96 was to let our review Mark, who is an N95 owner, put it through its paces for a few weeks. So while he is playing with the new N96 and putting together the review I thought I’d share the unboxing video with you:

HTC Touch HD vs Xperia X1, Diamond & Pro

We posted our review of the HTC Touch HD about a week ago. Since then many of you have sent us questions and although we’ve ben covering them through the comments on the review post there are some questions that we thought we’d answer through the video below.

The other question I’ve been asked a lot lately is ‘which device should I buy?’ This is a very difficult question to answer, the device that’s right for you depends on so many factors so I’ve also attempted to cover some of this in the video.

You’ll also find a demo of TomTom 6 and the Gsen application working on the HTC Touch HD.

HTC Touch 3G unboxed

About 18 months ago HTC launched the HTC Touch which was something of a landmark device that finally put the HTC brand on the map. A year and a half later most people will have heard of HTC.

The original HTC Touch was a very popular device and the one the established the Touch brand. The biggest criticism of the Touch was the lack of 3G and WiFi. This was addressed in later models but the latest in the Touch genesis is the Touch 3G.

3g_main

HTC Touch HD unboxed and previewed!

The HTC Touch HD is yet another great new device from HTC that everyone seems to be waiting for. Many of you have send emails and messages asking if you should by the Touch Pro, the Omnia, the X1 or if you should wait for the Touch HD.

My HD arrived this morning from Clove Technology and after a quick unboxing (which you can see below) I’ve been playing with it most of the day so far.

SO what do I think? Well I am definitely impressed. The screen is fantastic, the OS responsive and the design is awesome. Loving it so far as it feels like the logical progression for me from the Diamond.

HD-vs-iPhone

Touch HD vs iPhone

Inevitably the Touch HD will be compared to the iPhone, they have a similar design and are of a similar size. Many are hailing the Touch HD as a true iPhone killer. I’m not sure that I’d go so far as to say that, the success of the iPhone, in my opinion, isn’t just down to the hardware but iTunes and the AppStore have a great deal to do with that too. I’ll be talking about how they compare more when we got down to the full review.

HD-vs-Diamond

Touch HD vs Touch Diamond

The Touch HD is quite a bit bigger than then Touch Diamond but that’s really down to a design choice with that large WVGA screen, which I have to say, is fantastic. The HD takes some of the design elements of the Diamond, such as the flush front design, and builds upon them where we now have a totally flat and button-less front on the HD.

HD_flat

Thank goodness HTC have finally included a proper headphone connector on the HD. You can now use any headphones with a standard 3.5mm jack plug and you wont have to splash out for nor carry one of those annoying adapters!

HD_top

Touch HD top view

So on to the unboxing and preview video. The unit we have on review is an official UK retail model, kindly supplied by Clove Technology, so this is exactly what you’ll get if you buy one SIM-free today. The Orange version may vary slightly and is likely to have custom icons and screens but we’ll find out about that later next week when we hope to have the Orange review unit.

HTC Touch HD Unboxed

I’ll spend the rest of the weekend using the HD and will start the review off early next week. Please do drop me a line with any questions you might have and I’ll do my best to answer them for you!
