Acer neoTouch S200 (Acer F1) unboxing video

So the other day we spoke about the Acer F900 being comparable to the HTC Touch HD and now the Acer neoTouch S200 (aka Acer F1) has landed on my desk I’m wondering what to compare this to? I suppose you could think of it as being Acer’s answer to both the Touch HD or maybe even the Toshiba TG01, especially when you take the 1gHz CPU in to account and that the screen is just a few fractions of an inch smaller than its Toshiba counterpart.

The Acer neoTouch S200 (Acer F1)

The Acer neoTouch S200 (Acer F1)

The Acer neoTouch is another one of the devices launched recently to have Windows Mobile 6.5, there aren’t too many handsets available at the moment shipping with WM 6.5. Those of you familiar with the Acer F900 that we reviewed recently will see that the neoTouch bares more than a passing resemblance to the earlier handset. We’ll be putting the neoTouch to task over the next week or so and the review will be here for you shortly.

For now, have a look at the unboxing video below for a quick tour of the handset and the user interface.

HTC Tattoo unboxing video

A little over a month ago HTC announced that they would soon launch another Google Android powered handset called the HTC Tattoo. Surprisingly soon after that announcement HTC have launched the Tattoo and we’ve just managed to get our hands on one for review.

The HTC Tattoo The HTC Tattoo (back)

The HTC Tattoo

The HTC Tattoo is the smallest Android powered handset to be released so far and possibly one of the cheaper ones too. Unlike all the other Android handsets this one has only a QVGA (240×320) display versus the HVGA (320×480) found on the others. This makes for a much smaller, compact and lightweight handset. I’ve only used it briefly today but I have to say that my initial opinion is that it’s a really nice looking handset and I like the design of the back, much more interesting than the usual black or silver.

So we’ll be reviewing the HTC Tattoo over the next week or so and will have the review online for you as soon as we can. For now, have a look at the unboxing video below to see the handset in a little more detail. Note that although the box isn’t the full retail package the handset itself is full and final.

Motorola Dext (Cliq) unboxing video

It has been a long, long time since I used a Motorola handset so I was pleased when they announced the Motorola Dext recently and even more intrigued to learn that it would be a Google Android device.  Originally announced in the US as the Motorola Cliq for some reason it’s called the Dext in the UK.

dext-angled-open

The Motorola Dext (Cliq)

The Motorola Dext is a decent looking handset with a sliding QWERTY keyboard. It’s good to see another Android powered device with a QWERTY as the G1 is becoming a little dated now. The Dext looks a little like some LG handsets that you can find on the market too with its three button arrangement below the screen.

It’s good to see more Android handsets hitting the market. We’ll be reviewing the Dext over the next week or so and will have the review online for you soon. Don’t foget to head over to the Dext forum post if you have any questions about the Dext. Until then have a look at the unboxing video below for a quick tour of the handset and a little look at the OS.

LG GW520 unboxing video

Another device with a sliding QWERTY keyboard hits the market, this time the GW520 from LG.

The LG GW520

The LG GW520

It does seem like every manufacturer is suddenly compelled to release their own QWERTY keyboarded handset and LG are no different. The GW520 has a similar Flash-based OS to many other LG handsets but has the obvious added benefit of a full, sliding QWERTY keyboard.

Having spent just a little time using the handset I have to say that the keyboard is quite impressive, LG have done a decent job here. But, for a handset that is clearly designed ad messaging and social networking it’s rather disappointing not to have built in WiFi.

James is reviewing the handset at the moment and the review will be on site over the next week or so. Feel free to direct questions at him via the forum. In the mean time have a look at the unboxing video below for a taster of what the LG GW520 has to offer.

In Touch.
Stay on top of the latest updates from friends with the LG GW520 and its social networking site integration. Get status updates, upload photo’s, or just send you own updates and let the world know what your up to.

Message.
Stay in touch with friends and family with more then voice. Built in instant messaging (IM) support lets you connect with friends and send messages instantly. Support for personal and business push email lets receive messages the moment they are sent. The QWERTY keyboard makes it a breeze to compose messages. Whatever you need the LG GW520 is always ready.

LG GW520 Specification:

  • Dimensions: 106.5 x 53 x 15.9mm
  • Weight: 125.5g

Acer seem to be releasing quite a lot of handsets recently and this Acer Tempo F900 is one of the latest handsets to be released in the Tempo range.

The Acer Tempo F900 HD

The Acer Tempo F900 HD

The F900, still showing fairly obvious Eten design characteristics, appears to be Acer’s answer to the popular HTC Touch HD, having virtually the same screen and a similar footprint. Whether or not the F900 can hold its own against the Touch HD we’ll find out over the next few weeks as we test it for the full review. One thing is certain though, the F900 is a lot cheaper than the Touch HD at under £190 from eXpansys it does, on the face of it, seem like good value for money.

We’ll have the full review for you within the next few weeks. As always if there is anything specific that you would like to know then please let us know via the forum. For now have a look at the unboxing video below for a brief overview of the Aver F900.

Hisense 1080p HD Media Player unboxing video

Not long ago we reviewed a couple of media players one of which was the Traxdata USB media player. The Traxdata media player was good but the main drawback that we found with it was that it could not playback HD footage, it only up-scaled SD footage to HD.

So that’s where the Hisense 1080p HD Media Player steps in. Not only can it play standard definition footage and up-scale that to HD but it can also playback full HD footage up to 1080p.

Nokia E55 unboxing video

The Nokia E55 is another new handset to enter Nokia’s E-series range and a good looking device it is too! Possibly one of the thinnest handsets that I’ve seen for a while and certainly one of the small to have a compact QWERTY keyboard.

E55_angled_right

The Nokia E55

The E55, at first glance, looks a little like a regular candy-bar style Nokia handset but then upon further inspection you’ll notice the 20-key compact QWERTY keyboard and the generous QVGA screen which make for a good combination on a messaging device.

Emma is reviewing the E55 at the moment so please be sure to direct any specific questions to her by responding to this post on the forum. In the mean time have a look at the unboxing video below to see what the E55 has to offer.

Nokia 3720 Classic unboxing video

We’ve recently had some requests from readers to review some more entry-level handsets as not everyone wants a smartphone. It’s a valid point and not everyone wants a large touchscreen phone.

So I got in contact with Nokia to see what they had that fits the bill. They sent me the Nokia 3720 Classic. To be honest it amazed me what you get with what they consider to be an entry level handset. QVGA Display, FM Radio with RDS, MP4 Video player, instant messaging, email support and Nokia Maps all on a handset costing under £125 seems quite impressive.

The Nokia 3720 Classic

Below you’ll find my 3720 unboxing video which includes a little look at the OS too. Note that the video was recorded on the Sony HDR-FX1000 that we are reviewing at the moment too.

Sony HDR-FX1000 unboxing video

Ever since the Sony released their HDR-FX1000 HD Handycam I’ve wanted to get my hands on one to review. As you are no doubt aware, I record a LOT of video for the website and although I am quite pleased with the results from the Sanyo HD1000 that I use at the moment I wanted to see what a proper high-end camcorder could do.

FX1000_angled_left copy

The Sony HDR-FX1000 HD Handycam

In terms of what I use a camcorder for most, unboxing videos, the main problem with lower spec. camcorders is that in order to get the best picture quality you need to record in fairly bright conditions. Not a problem in itself, however, when you consider that most of the products that I am reviewing/unboxing have extremely shiny screens then recoding in bight conditions so that you can see the device does no lend itself to being able to see what’s on that shiny screen. Recording is often a compromise.

So when thinking about getting a better camcorder for unboxings the HDR-FX1000 sounded like a good choice. Thanks to its 3 CMOS chips and the large Sony G Lens the FX1000 performs very well in lower light conditions. Whether or not this makes any difference to me in practice remains to be seen but I’m hoping for a big improvement in the video quality of my unboxings!

I’m going to spend the next few weeks reviewing the HDR-FX1000. I’ll be using it to record some videos and I’ll be sure to mention which videos I used the FX1000 for. I should have my review online in a few weeks time, it’ll probably take me that long to work out what all the buttons do. Have a look at the FX1000 unboxing video below for a quick tour of the camcorder and to see what’s included.
