HTC One (M8) first look video

HTC_One_M8HTC’s new flagship “HTC One (M8)” saw its official annoucement and launch today during an event held here in London. We were lucky enough to get some hands-on time with the new HTC One (M8) a few days ago and recorded an initial first-look video that you can see below.

I’m hugely impressed with the new HTC One (M8) – last year’s model is now referred to as the HTC One (M7) – if you thought that last years model was well designed and engineered then you’re going to love the new one. The body is now around 90% aluminium, up from 70% previously. The boost in screen size, up to 5″ is a welcome change while the use of a slimmer bezel design and the change to on-screen menu buttons rather than off-screen capacitive buttons has enabled HTC to cram everything in to a phone that is not physically a lot bigger than the M7 model.

This video is a failry short one and I will be following this up with another series of videos looking at various features in more detail so keep an eye open for those over the next day or so but check out the HTC One (M8) features and HTC One (M8) press release posts for more.

Archos 40 Titanium Unboxing

archos_40titanium_Pers_slide_1Archos is filling the market with devices at the moment, some cheap, so not so cheap. To help avoid confusion Archos have labelled the phone ranges after periodic elements, Titanium, Oxygen and Helium. Titanium being the more price conscious range with five different variants covering differing sizes.

In this video we look at the low-end Archos 40 Titanium, a 4″ Android smartphone with a fairly capable Dual-Core processor but a rather measly amount of RAM and ROM.

Archos 79 Xenon Unboxing Video

archos_79xenon_Face_slide_2Much like their phone range, Archos are pushing out every variation of tablet to increase customer choice.  Each tablet in the range comes with a different label after a periodic element, Cobalt, Titanium, Xenon and Platinum.

Each Element seems to increase the specs and the price a little with various screen sizes available for each. Simple idea however, maybe a little confusing with you have so many to choose from. The Xenon is the slightly lower high end range, not quite a feature rich as the Platinum. The big drawback really seems to be the lack of options for storage, all of Archos’ tablets seems to come with 8gb storage aside from their flagship 101xs2 with 16gb.

In the video below I take a look at the Archos 79 Xenon, going hands on with the little beauty after a rapid unboxing.

Nokia Lumia 1520 unboxing video

lumia-1520Nokia have managed to produce an extremely popular range of Windows Phone devices with the Lumia brand and the Lumia 1020 certainly drew a lot of attention last year when that launched with its whopping 40MP camera.

Eager to break in to that interesting “phablet” market, Nokia announced the Lumia 1520 late in 2013. Since then the 1520 has turned out to be pretty popular for those wishing to combine the size of a tablet with the functionality of a phone while not wanting to carry two devices.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a glorious 6-inch full HD IPS LCD screen that really does look the business. Couple that with the 2.2GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, the specification starts to add up and throwing in a 20MP camera doesn’t hurt either!

As always, I’m kicking off with the unboxing and hands-on video before we crack on with the review.

Special thanks to Clove Technology for our review unit.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro unboxing and first impressions

YOGA-2-pro_Orange_Standard_04The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro sits towards the top end of the multimode Ultrabook market and is the latest Lenovo model to enter this space. Lenovo have several ‘multimode’ models in their range but one thing that certainly sets the Yoga 2 Pro apart from the rest of the crowd is the amazing 13.3″ QHD+ display, that’s 3200×1800 pixels!

The Yoga 2 Pro comes in a variety of flavours including Intel i3, i5 or i7 processor, 128GB / 256GB / 512GB SSD and 4GB/8GB RAM. The one we have is the i5 with 256GB SSD and 4GB RAM.

Some of you may know that I already have the Yoga 13 and I use that quite often. The Yoga 2 Pro has a similar footprint to the Yoga 13 but is a little lighter and, as I mentioned above, has an amazing QHD+ display. In the video below I’m doing my best to demonstrate just how good it is!

So check out the video, I’m hands-on with the Yoga 2 Pro and take a look at the hardware before firing up the OS.

Motorola Moto G hands-on video

Motorola Moto GThe Motorola Moto G has been making the news quite a lot lately and its popularity seems to be surging. There’s now the Google Play Edition available for $179 for the 8GB model so it’s perhaps easy to see why this Android smartphone is being snapped up so quickly.

It may not have the best specification on offer but with a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU, 1GB RAM and a 720 x 1280 display, the Motorola Moto G is beginning to redefine entry-level.

As you know, we love to start out by unboxing a new products but our Motorola Moto G review unit is a beta device so arrived in a simple envelope. So our unboxing becomes an un-enveloping and I go hands-on with the Moto G, take a look at the hardware and then dig at the OS a little.

Full review up soon too.

Lenovo Ideapad Miix 10 unboxing and hands on

Lenovo Ideapad Miix 10Lenovo have a wide range of ‘multimode’ devices on the market and we’re continuing to look at the entire range with the Ideapad Miix 10.

This Windows 8 computer can transform from laptop to tablet in seconds offering great flexibility and enables you to have the capabilities of several devices in one package. The keyboard doubles as a flexible case/cover but this can be removed completely should you wish to use it in naked tablet mode.

Those out there considering their first tablet computer may want to look at devices like this, running Windows 8, as they offer a good alternative to Android and iOS tablets on the market as they are capable of running desktop applications which is useful in the corporate environment and where business productivity is important.

In the video below you’ll see the Miix 10 in a little more detail, I’ll show you the hardware and how the keyboard works with the removable tablet unit. Not the normal unboxing as our review unit was a bit battered but otherwise it’s a full unbox and hands-on.

Acer C720 Chromebook Unboxing video

Acer-Chromebook-previewed-at-IDF-forward-angleThe Chromebook of the moment has got to be the Acer C720. Currently being released in a number of different configurations featuring various amounts of RAM and storage, touchscreens and now colours.

Acer seem to have hit upon a winning combination of value, power and quality. What new edge does the Acer C720 bring to the table, despite options? Well, not a lot to be entirely honest, in terms of specification it’s really on par with all the other Chomebooks out there at the moment. However, the C720 does offer great value for money and seems to be the solid choice.

As always, I’m starting off the review process by recoding an unboxing video, which you’ll be able to see below. Here I’ll be showing off the hardware as well as taking a look at the OS and UI once we’ve booted up. A process that takes seconds!

LG G2 unboxing and hands on video

LG G2 unboxingA few months ago LG released the LG G2 and shortly after the LG Google Nexus 5 also went on sale. It seems that the Nexus 5 all but stole the headlines from the LG G2 which, underneath, is virtually the same as its Google-branded stable mate.

The LG G2 has also been massively popular though and particularly when the Nexus 5 was in short supply, saw strong sales figures to the later part of 2013.

It’s taken a while for us to get our hands on one to review but finally we have one here and I’m putting it up against the Nexus 5 that I’ve loved using ever since I getting that a few months ago now.

As mentioned above, the G2 and the Nexus 5 have very similar specs. The same CPU and Memory, 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 and 2GB RAM respectively. The G2 has a 13MP camera versus the 8MP shooter on the Nexus 5 and the G2 also has a slightly larger 5.2″ HD IPS screen.

Perhaps the most notable difference is with the OS and user interface, though, with the LG G2 sat on Android 4.2.2 with the omipresent LG overlay whereas the Nexus 5 has Android 4.4 KitKat and a very thin skinning.

In the video below you can see the LG G2 unboxed and in a little more detail and some comparisons to the Nexus 5. And for those of you that are all about the numbers, there’s a benchmark test too..
