Netgear SPH200D Dual-Mode Phone with Skype

A few days ago I told you about our new Netgear SPH101 Skype WiFi phone but yesterday we got our hands on a new Netgear SPH200D Dual-Mode Phone with Skype.

    Netgear SPH200D

    Netgear SPH200D

The Netgear SPH200D combines Skype’s VoIP calling facilities with regular ‘land line’ a based phone both of which work over a DECT connection from handset to base station.

Set up is extremely simple: Plug the Dual-mode Cordless Phone Station into your Internet router (Ethernet port) to make your Skype calls and plug the base station into your phone line (PSTN) wall jack to make land line calls—from the same cordless phone.

It’ll take us a little while to put the review together so here is the unboxing video that you have probably all become accustomed to!

Our intial tests with the Netgear SPH200D look good, so far we have not had any problems with it and call quality seems about perfect but we’ll have more for you soon.

For anyone wishing to contact us via Skype you can do so via our Skype username: tracyandmatt or using our Skype-in phone number: 0208 123 3757. We are always happy to hear from our readers!

The Netgear SPH200D can be purchased from eXpansys.

    Netgear SPH101 Skype WiFi phone

There is no denying that Skype, and VoIP services in general, are growing in popularity. But in order to use Skype you are typical tied to using a PC in order to make and receive your voice calls. However, using a PC with a headset is not necessarily convenient.

    Netgear Skype WiFi Phone

    Netgear Skype WiFi Phone

Enter the Netgear SPH101 Skype WiFi phone. The SPH101 looks very much like a regular mobile phone, but where the device differs is that it connects to a WiFi connection, either your home router or a wireless hotspot, and allows you to sign into your Skype account.

We’ve just picked up the Netgear SPH101 and we’ll be using the device and putting together a review over the next week or so. For now we thought you might like an unboxing video.

Tracy and I are both heavy Skype users so we are looking forward to testing the Netgear Skype phone.

For anyone wishing to contact us via Skype you can do so via our Skype username: tracyandmatt or using our Skype-in phone number: 0208 123 3757. We are always happy to hear from our readers!

The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a welcome update to the popular, yet under-powered, N770. The N800 features a faster CPU and more RAM and also includes an VGA camera for video calling.

We thought that the Nokia N800 was an interesting looking device and wondered if it could work as a mobile internet companion. Here’s a first look video of the device with an unbox and a quick look at some of features.

Over the next few weeks Nokia Nick will be posting his review of the device while he uses it in a real-world environment.

The Nokia N800 Internet tablet provides the user with an Internet calling device with all the portable Internet and media service the user will desire. The tablet is compact and beautifully designed with usability in mind and measures 75 x 144 x 13 mm which is slim and easy to hold in a single hand.

So far I’m quite liking the Nokia N800, the screen is stunning and web browsing is a pleasure. There isn’t a working version of Skype or MSN messenger for the device yet (as far as we know) but are apparently in the pipeline.

    HTC Touch promotional videos

HTC have released a number of HTC Touch promotional videos so I thought I would upload these to YouTube in order to share them with you all!

This first video is an introduction to the HTC Touch and features Diane Studman, head of marketing for HTC Europe:

This second video is the one used at the launch event:

And this final video is the HTC Touch advert (will we ever see it on TV?):

I’ve been using the device for a few days naw and have to say that I’m really begining to like it. It’s small size and good battery life makes it really rather appealing as longas you can get past the lack of 3G and relatively slow CPU Speed!

We’ll have our HTC Touch review online soon!

    Acer P630 Portable Navigator unboxed

EDIT: Our P630 review is now online HERE.

My parents recently decided that they wanted Sat Nav in their car. They would like something portable so that they can remove it from the car but didn’t like the idea of having a Smartphone or Pocket PC with with TomTom installed as they wanted to keep their current Nokia phones.

My initial thought was to get them a TomTom Go but these seem to be rather bulky so decided to see what else was available. That’s when I came across the Acer P630 portable navigator.

The P630 is a slim all-in-one navigation unit that includes CoPilot 6, built in GPS and a wide 4″ colour touch screen. With the Acer P630 you also get built in bluetooth for handsfree connectivity allowing you to connect your mobile phone, using the Acer as a speaker and microphone.

So I’m giving the Acer P630 a try at the moment and I’ll be posting my review soon. In the mean time, here’s an unbox video to show you what’s included in the package.

Download the WMV version of the video HERE.

  • 64 MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM
  • Hands-free Bluetooth
  • SD memory card slot
