Asus P526 (Pegasus) unboxed

Phones with built in GPS are becoming more common place and the Asus P526, aka Asus Pegasus, is another device to fall in to that category.

This is one of the few candy-bar style Windows Mobile devices to include GPS, Touchscreen and a phone keypad and seems to cater for almost everyone.

There are a few disapointments though. Firstly there is no built in WiFi nor is there 3G/UMTS or HSDPA support. This may limit the phones appeal but when you consider the compact form factor and the cost, £246.80 (Ex. VAT) from Devicewire it could well be an ideal device for business users.

I’ll be reviewing the P526 shortly but here for your viewing pleasure is our unboxing video.

Living Images 7″ Digital Photo Frame unboxed

We’ve reviewed a number of digital photo frames in the past and have generally been impresed with them but they always seem to be rather expensive when you consider the technology involved. Often photo frames will set you back £150+ just for a 7″ display which seems rather a lot when you can get a 17″ monitor for under £100!!

This is where the digital photo frames from Living Images are different. They have a whole range of frames starting at just £49. The model we are reviewing here is under £80!

We decided to have a look at some of the photo frames on offer and here we have the 7″ Living Images Memory View Digital Photo Frame with 128MB Internal Memory.

Living Images 7″ Digital Photo Frame

This particular photo frame has a number of cool features, including Mpeg video support and built in speakers, on top of that it comes with an IR remote control!

  • Screen Resolution (pixels): 480×234

    Eten Glofiish M700 unboxed/revisited

OK, I do realise that the Eten Glofiish M700 is far from being a new device, but it’s one that we didn’t get around to looking at when it was first released and it seems to be one of those devices that, despite its apparent abilities, has been overlooked by many.

This was the first Windows Mobile device to have a sliding QWERTY keyboard as well as built in GPS. It also has a decent 400MHz CPU. In fact, on the face of it, the only downside we can see with this device is the lack of 3G, lets see how the Glofiish M700 holds up once we start reviewing it though!

    Panasonic Lumix DMC FX12 unboxed

We recently decided to get ourselves a digital compact camera. I have my Canon EOS 400D digital SLR camera but, as much as I love my photography, it’s a bit too big to take everywhere. So we started to look for something small enough to put in my pocket or for Tracy to have in her handbag.

We came across the Panasonic Lumix range of cameras which looked ideal. After a quick search around the web we discovered that Curry’s had the camera on offer for £139.99 but with £40 cashback!

HTC TyTN II first retail unbox!

We strive to bring you the most up to date information about devices and have managed to get our hands on a retail boxed version of the new HTC TyTN II. This could very well be the first unboxing video of the final retail unit!

    HTC TyTN II box

    HTC TyTN II box

Overall the final version looks and feels a lot more sturdy and refined than some of the early demo units we’ve seen and I’m pleased to say that TomTom 6 is included, although this is a ‘Taster’ version whereby you can only download one city map for free. Naturally we’ll have more on the TyTN II as we use it.

    Enjoy the video!

    HTC TyTN II unboxed!

Note that in the video I mention the memory card as being miniSD. It is in fact microSD, sorry for the goof!

EDIT: You can see our TyTN II review HERE.

    Samsung Q1 Ultra unboxed

Along with the OQO Model 01 we reviewed earlier this year, we also had a look at the Samsung Q1. The Q1 was one of the first true UMPC devices to be released, it was an interesting product but was not without its problems, the main one being the input method which used on-screen dial keys which, coupled with the relatively low-resolution display, made the Q1 cumbersome to use.

Samsung have addressed these issues and recently released the new Samsung Q1 Ultra. This has a similar look to the original Q1 but includes a QWERTY keypad and a higher resolution, 1024 x 600 display.

As always, we are starting off with a video unbox of the machine.

    Samsung Q1 Ultra unboxed

One point to note however is that the SIM Card socket on this UK model is innoperative. Perhaps it will be anabled with a ROM/Software update in the future?

    Samsung Q1 Ultra specification:

  • Intel®Processor Technology A110 (800MHz)
  • Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium
  • DDRII 400MHz (1GB)
  • 60GB Hard Drive
  • Stylus
  • 7″ WSVGA (1024×600) TFT Display
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • Wifi: 802.11b/g
  • VGA/Ethernet adapter
  • Battery Capacity: 4000mAh (standard) & 8000mAh (extended)
  • 227.5mm x 23.9mm x 123.9mm
  • 690 Grams

    O2 Blackberry Curve unboxed

I look after a team of about 40 mobile users. More than half of them have Windows mobile devices of one sort or another. There is one thing that really bugs me though, and that’s the fact that everyone insists on calling any device with a keyboard a ‘Blackberry’!

It really isn’t that I have anything against Blackberry as such but it’s the same as calling all MP3 players and iPod (which also happens).

I wonder if this will be something familiar to other people out there that support a number of business users?

Anyway, we have been asked a lot recently about the differences between Blackberry and Windows Mobile and many people email to ask “Should I get a Blackberry or a Smartphone?”

We are keen to provide a balanced view of all technologies, so we thought that the best way to address this would be to review a Blackberry and compare it to Windows Mobile in the real world. O2 kindly sent us the rather attractive looking Blackberry Curve and Alasdair will be putting together a review for us in the coming weeks.

Here’s a brief unbox video of the device with a very quick comparison to a couple of WM models.

    O2 Blackberry Curve

As always, feel free add your comments or to ask questions and we’ll do our best to cover them in the review (if not before).
