Samsung unveils new Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0)

Tab 7.0

Samsung Electronics today announced the first addition to its 2012 tablet line up with the launch of the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0). Powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a 1GHz dual core processor, the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) will be available in 3G and WiFi versions.

As Samsung’s first tablet to run on the latest Android platform, the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) offers a variety of new and improved Android OS features. Owners of the new device will benefit from faster performance and response times across multiple applications, such as embedded Google applications so they can quickly launch sites and applications they use frequently as well as the innovative Face Unlock feature.

In addition to enabling easy multimedia access, playback and sharing experiences with Samsung’s existing Hub range (Music, Reader and Games), the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) introduces Samsung’s new Video Hub, which offers over 1,000 film titles for purchase or rent. Complementing this multimedia offering is Samsung’s upgraded Touchwiz user interface featuring Hub widgets which allow one-step access to selected content, whilst a new service, S Suggest, offers real-time recommendations of apps suited to customers’ tastes directly on the home screen.

This multimedia experience is further enhanced by Samsung’s AllShare Play, a new content-sharing service available for the first time on any Samsung mobile device. AllShare Play allows users to play or live-stream their multimedia content on their Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) from PCs, other Samsung smart devices as well as third-party web storages, whilst content can also be transferred easily to other devices or directly to Web services.

Connecting socially has never been easier with Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0)’s built-in communication capabilities. It enables customers to spontaneously arrange multi-party video calls via Google+ hangouts, as well as engage in group chats or micro-communities to collectively chat or share content. In addition, ChatON, Samsung’s cross-platform communication service, connects all phone users of any platform into a single community.

Simon Stanford, UK & IRE Telecommunications & Networks Division said: “We have actively worked to enhance and extend our tablet offering since the launch of the original Galaxy Tab 18 months ago, to put us in the position we are in today of being able to offer our customers a portfolio of devices of varying sizes relative to their different needs. We are delighted to be offering our customers even more choice with our latest tablet which is our first to feature Android 4.0.”
