It looks like Sainsbury’s want to get in on the mobile action. The supermarket is initially opening two phone departments at the Letchworth and King’s Lynn stores where they will sell contract, pay as you go and SIM free devices as well as a range of accessories. All the UK’s major networks are will be available, (EE, Three, O2 and Vodafone) so like the big rival Tesco, the full range or products and services will be on offer.

The deal has been struck in conjunction with A1 Comms who will supply the airtime and 20:20 Mobile who will supply the devices. To entice customers; Sainsbury’s are offering customers 2,500 Nectar card points with a new contract.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: ‘We’re always looking at ways to serve our customers better and we are trialing moving our mobile phone offer into a new dedicated location within our Letchworth and King’s Lynn stores.

It’s early days for Sainsbury’s and we don’t yet have prices or the full range of devices, but it is rumored that they haven’t yet had the go-ahead from Apple to sell the iPhone. We will of course update you when more is known. Great to see another Supermarket taking the bull by the horns.
