T-Mobile G1 – Unboxed Photos

The guys over at TMONEWS have managed to get photos up of a G1 box and it’s contents.

g1-unboxing g1-unboxing-2 g1-unboxing-3 g1-unboxing-4

g1-unboxing-5 g1-unboxing-6 g1-unboxing-7 g1-unboxing-8

g1-unboxing-9 g1-unboxing-10 g1-unboxing-11 g1-unboxing-12

g1-unboxing-13 g1-unboxing-14

As we can see from the photos the box design has been left simplistic and to be honest rather boring considering HTC are famous now for weird boxes what with the pyramid design and the slide one way pull the other boxes. Understandably this has been a T-Mobile slant on the box and the chances are the the official HTC version will be boxed very differently.

Inside the box, from the pictures, we see that there is the Phone, Wall Charger, Battery, Wired Headset, Data Cable, Carry Pouch and the usual CD’s / Literature.

One thing I will say is not to judge this book by it’s cover as I am sure the device itself will pack a few punches and surprise many of the techy people out there with just some of the things it can do.

T-Mobile G1 in pictures

As I said in my previous post, yesterday I managed to get my hands on the G1 briefly. Here are some more photos for you to look at. Click thumbnails to enlarge.

Obviously I’ll be trying to get my hands on the G1 to review in due course.

Oh and one tip for event organisers – funky coloured lighting may look cool, but can we have standard lighting somewhere for photos and video? 🙂

Samsung M8800 Pixon – Press Photos & Specs

We have finally been able to find photos (courtesy of GSM Arena) for the Samsung M8800 Pixon and have several updates about its impressive specs sheet that you may be interested in.

After we published a Samsung teaser on Friday, today we finally see the Samsung M8800 Pixon in its full glory.

Samsung M8800 Pixon - Tilt View Samsung M8800 Pixon - Front View Samsung M8800 Pixon - Side View Samsung M8800 Pixon - Back View

Official photos of Samsung M8800 Pixon

First of all, the Samsung M8800 Pixon is thin – at 13.8mm. Samsung now have the slimmest 8 megapixel cameraphone but a point to note is that it only beats the LG KC910 Renoir by 0.2mm.

Samsung M8800 Pixon - Lay Down View

The Pixon has not only DivX, but also Xvid video support making it a true multimedia device.

Unlike the initial unofficial reports, the M8800 Pixon won’t be featuring tri-band UMTS support, so 3G is a no-go in the US (Sorry Guys across the pond).

Next there’s the tilt-and-flip photo browser, which allows flipping through your photos by simply tilting your handset. We didn’t pay much attention to that feature when we saw it back in the commercial video, but Samsung seem to be making a great deal of it so we thought it was worth mentioning.

Samsung are currently not commenting the GPS feature, which makes us wonder whether it will be possible to use it for anything else besides photo geo-tagging, guess we will need to wait for the official release to find out more .

The plan at the moment is to start shipping in mid-October starting in France and soon continuing to most other European and Asian countries. The price is estimated at £435 at the moment but knowing Samsung this could change any time.

Samsung M8800 Specifications:

  • Quad-band GSM, HSDPA 2100 7.2 Mbps
  • Dimensions: 107.9 x 54.6 x 13.8 mm
  • Weight: 121 g
  • 3.2" TFT (256k Colours) 200 x 400 pixels with Accelerometer sensor
  • microSD up to 8GB with 200mb Internal Memory
  • GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 – 48 kbps
  • EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps
  • Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP
  • MicroUSB port V2.0
  • WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML Browser

  • SRS (Surround Sound System) Virtual 5.1CH

Adobe opens Photoshop.com Mobile Beta for Windows Mobile

Adobe Photoshop.com Mobile with support for Windows Mobile devices and the Beta went online recently. Unfortunately Adobe didn’t put a lot of thought into the name given to this as users could be mislead into thinking that this is a fully mobile version of the much used and loved Photoshop photo editing suite when infact it is nothing like that.

According to their website this service is described as:

Upload, view, and share photos on the go

Adobe® Photoshop.com Mobile is the easiest way to upload, view, and share your photos online from your phone. All you need is a supported Windows Mobile® phone and your Photoshop.com account ID. Photoshop.com Mobile beta will be available as a free download in September.

KEY FEATURES
Upload from the road

Have Photoshop.com Mobile upload photos from your phone to your Photoshop.com account as soon as you take them. You can store up to 2GB of photos there free. (Note: Photoshop.com Plus members get 20GB. Learn more)

Access anywhere

At a party, in a meeting, on the road — view your online photos and albums from your phone, wherever you are.

Share with friends and family

Create a Mobile Share album right from your phone to show the world, or invite friends and family to view your photos online from Photoshop.com.

Photoshop.com Mobile product shots

The support for devices is very limited just not with support on only:

Photoshop.com Mobile devices

Whilst this does not set my pulse racing I do think its a very good idea by Adobe and with there being 2GB worth of FREE space we cant be seen to grumble too much.

Service at the moment will be restricted to US customers only and will go live sometime before the end of September.

Samsung M8800 Pixon (AKA Bresson) appears

The 8 megapixel full touchscreen Samsung M8800 seems to have been announced today – rather quietly in fact. And it’s already been previewed by a Russian team, who provided some nice images along the way.

image

The Samsung M8800, be it Bresson or Pixon, is the second 8 megapixel handset by Samsung, following the Symbian-powered Samsung i8510 INNOV8 .

 image

The Samsung M8800 however is not a smartphone and has no keyboard but a 3.2-inch touchscreen display and has the same TouchWiz interface as the Samsung Omnia and Samsung F480 Tocco, however this time they’ve added Weather and Google widgets.

 image
Samsung M8800 is called either Bresson or Pixon

image

True, it’s not a smartphone, but the Samsung M8800 has an impressive specs sheet, which includes goodies such as:

  • Quad-band GSM, tri-band HSDPA
  • 107.9×54.6×14.9mm, 110 g
  • 3.2-inch touch screen display (240 x 400 pixels)
  • 8 megapixel camera with auto focus, face recognition with smile detection and blink detection. WDR (wide dynamic range), ASR (advanced shake reduction), GPS geotagging, ISO 1600, WVGA (720×480 pixels) and VGA (640 x 480 pixels) @30fps video recording
  • Built-in GPS receiver
  • Accelerometer
  • DivX playback
  • FM radio with RDS
  • microSD card slot
  • Bluetooth
  • Landscape virtual QWERTY keyboard
  • Handwriting recognition
  • ShoZu integration – direct image and video upload
  • Office document viewer

image image

 image image
Samsung M8800 next to Samsung i900 Omnia

Unfortunately, the lack of Wi-Fi functionality is a bit of a downer and would make it hard to compete with the rivaling LG KC910 Renoir.

The Samsung M8800 is set to start shipping as early as 10 November 2008 at a starting price of 550 euro (800 US dollars).

T-Mobile G1 – Press Release * Breaking First *

G1_mainscreen G1_white_searchresults

T-Mobile Unveils the T-Mobile G1 —
the First Phone Powered by Android

T-Mobile Phone Boasts an Intuitive Touch Screen and QWERTY Keyboard,
Plus Popular Google Products and Fresh, New Applications

NEW YORK – Sept. 23, 2008 – T-Mobile today announced the international launch of the world’s first Android™-powered mobile phone in partnership with Google. Available soon only for T-Mobile customers spanning two continents, the T-Mobile G1 combines full touch-screen functionality and a QWERTY keyboard with a mobile Web experience that includes the popular Google products that millions have enjoyed on the desktop, including Google Maps Street View™, Gmail™, YouTube™
and others.

“We are proud that T-Mobile is the first operator in the world to launch an Android-powered mobile device,” said Christopher Schläffer, group product and innovation officer of Deutsche Telekom.
“Since 2005, Google has been an established partner in T-Mobile’s groundbreaking approach to bringing the open mobile Internet to the mass market. With the T-Mobile G1, we are continuing our strong tradition of being pioneers in the world of the open Internet.”

Cole Brodman, chief technology and innovation officer, T-Mobile USA, said, “The Internet and the mobile phone are both indispensable tools for our hectic lives, but only a fraction of us access the Web on our phones. The T-Mobile G1 is our opportunity in the U.S. to accelerate the mass adoption of the mobile Web, by unleashing Google innovation with a unique software experience that mobilizes the Google services hundreds of millions of consumers rely on every day.”

“Increasingly, connectivity does not just mean a phone call, but rather access to the world’s information,” said Andy Rubin, senior director of mobile platforms for Google. “Today’s news signifies an important first step for the Open Handset Alliance: With Android, we’ve opened the mobile Web not only for millions of users, but also to mobilize the developer community that understands the next most important platform in the world rests in the palm of our hand.”

With a fun and intuitive user interface and one-touch access to Google Search, the T-Mobile G1 is also the first phone to provide access to Android Market, where customers can find and download unique applications to expand and personalize their phone to fit their lifestyle.

T-Mobile customers in the U.S. have the opportunity to pre-order the T-Mobile G1, in limited quantities, beginning today at www.T-MobileG1.com and be among the first to experience this game-changing phone. The device will be available at select T-Mobile retail stores and online in the U.S. beginning
Oct. 22, for a price of $179 with a two-year voice and data agreement. The T-Mobile G1 will also be available in the United Kingdom beginning in November, and across Europe in the first quarter of 2009. Countries include Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

Delivering the Familiarity of Google for a Superior Mobile Internet Experience:

The T-Mobile G1 with Google delivers a premium, easy-to-use mobile Web and communications experience in one device. Working together, T-Mobile, Google and HTC integrated Android and
T-Mobile services into the phone’s form and function. The T-Mobile G1’s vibrant, high-quality screen slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, great for communicating with friends online or using the phone’s e-mail, IM and mobile messaging capabilities. As another option for accessing the device, the
T-Mobile G1 comes equipped with a convenient trackball for more precise, one-handed navigation.

“T-Mobile, Google and HTC share a similar vision for making the mobile Internet practical, relevant and fun,” said Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corp. “The T-Mobile G1 represents the culmination of this vision by offering a variety of services, applications and content that introduces an Internet experience that everyone can enjoy. We are honored to be joining T-Mobile and Google today for this historic unveiling of the T-Mobile G1.”

With one-click contextual search, T-Mobile G1 customers in a flash can search for relevant information with a touch of a finger. A full HTML Web browser allows users to see any Web page the way it was designed to be seen, and then easily zoom in to expand any section by simply tapping on the screen.
With built-in support for T-Mobile’s 3G and EDGE network as well as Wi-Fi, the T-Mobile G1 can connect to the best available high-speed data connection for surfing the Web and downloading information quickly and effortlessly.

Google Maps Street View:

With Google Maps, Google’s groundbreaking maps service, T-Mobile G1 users can instantly view maps and satellite imagery, as well as find local business and get driving directions, all from the phone’s
easy-to-use touch interface. The T-Mobile G1 also includes Google Maps Street View, allowing customers to explore cities at street-level virtually while on the go. Without taking a step, customers can tour a far-away place as if they were there — standing on the street corner. Even better, the Google Maps feature syncs with the built-in compass on the phone — an industry first — to allow users to view locations and navigate 360 degrees by simply moving the phone with their hand. Google Maps Street View is available today in many U.S. locations and soon in European countries.

Communicating on the Go:

The T-Mobile G1 features a rich HTML e-mail client, which seamlessly syncs your e-mail, calendar and contacts from Gmail as well as most other POP3 or IMAP e-mail services. The T-Mobile G1 multitasks, so you can read a Web page while also downloading your e-mail in the background. It combines Instant Messaging support for Google Talk™, as well as AOL®, Yahoo! Messenger ® and Windows Live Messenger in the U.S. With access to high-speed Web browsing and a 3-megapixel camera with photo-sharing capabilities, the T-Mobile G1 is ideal for balancing a busy lifestyle, whether sharing pictures, checking the latest sports scores or accessing social networking sites.

Embracing User-Generated Content:

Customers can use the T-Mobile G1’s 3G and Wi-Fi connection to attach and share pictures over email and MMS or download music from their favorite Web sites, and soon, upload and post pictures to their personal blog.  Built-in support for YouTube allows customers to enjoy YouTube’s originally-created content, easily navigate through YouTube’s familiar video browsing categories or search for specific videos.

Music at Your Fingertips:
The T-Mobile G1 comes pre-loaded with a new application developed by Amazon.com that gives customers easy access to Amazon MP3, Amazon.com’s digital music download store with more than
6 million DRM-free MP3 tracks. Using the new application, T-Mobile G1 customers are able to search, sample, purchase and download music from Amazon MP3 directly to their device (downloading music from Amazon MP3 using the T-Mobile G1 requires a Wi-Fi connection; searching, sampling and purchasing music can be done anywhere with a cellular connection). The T-Mobile G1 will be the first device with the Amazon MP3 mobile application pre-loaded.

Android Market:

The T-Mobile G1 is the first phone to offer access to Android Market, which hosts unique applications and mash ups of existing and new services from developers around the world. With just a couple of short clicks, customers can find and download a wide range of innovative software applications — from games to social networking and on-the-go shopping — to personalize their phone and enhance their mobile lifestyle. When the phone launches next month, dozens of unique, first-of-a-kind Android applications will be available for download on Android Market, including:

  • ShopSavvy: an application designed to help people do comparative shopping. Users scan the UPC code of a product with their phone’s camera while they are shopping, and can instantly compare prices from online merchants and nearby local stores.
  • Ecorio: a new application developed to help people keep track of their daily travels and view what their carbon footprint looks like. With access to tips and tricks, Ecorio allows users to record the steps they take throughout their day to help offset their impact on the environment.
  • BreadCrumbz: a new application that enables people to create a step-by-step visual map using photos. Customers can create their own routes, share them with friends or with the world.
