Motorola Moto G – Quad-core power, budget price

motogMotorola’s newest Android handset, the Moto G is officially announced today and Motorola are hoping to shake things up a bit with this new model.

The Moto G will pack in a 1.2GHx quad-core CPU, 1GB RAM, 8 or 16Gb of storage, 5MP camera and 4.5 inch 720×1280 pixel display. Furthermore, the Moto G will ship with Android 4.3 with a promised update to 4.4 KitKat coming soon too.

Whilst these may not be the pinnacle of smartphone specs the price may surprise you. O2 have already come out to announce that the Moto G will be available on their network for just £129.99 on Pay & Go, which seems excellent value.

We’ll be looking to get our hands on one soon and will report back when we do.

Motorola Moto G announced

O2 today announces the Moto G will be available to buy from Thursday 28 November. Available on Pay & Go for just £129.99, the Moto G shows that high-end technology doesn’t have to have a high-end price tag.

“With the Moto G, Motorola are definitely back with a bang,” said David Johnson, General Manager Devices for O2 in the UK. “The quad-core power and high-end specifications of the Moto G is one of the best ways for first time buyers to experience everything Android has to offer, and at such an affordable price.”

Pay & Go Go Go

The Moto G will be available on O2’s Pay & Go Go Go tariffs, the only tariff that rewards customers for staying with it. Customers who top up £10 a month get 75 minutes, 500 texts, 250MB data and 5% of their top ups back when they first take out Pay & Go Go Go. After three months this is doubled to 150 minutes, 1000 texts and 500MB data. After six months O2 doubles the amount customers get back on their top ups to 10%, while customers who stay on Pay & Go Go Go get unlimited texts after nine months.

Even better deal

Customers who top up £20 per month meanwhile get an even better deal. Starting with 250 minutes, 2500 texts, 500MB data and 5% of their top ups back, after three months this doubles to 500 minutes, 5000 texts and 1GB of data. After six months the 5% of top ups back becomes 10% while after nine months of Pay & Go Go Go customers get unlimited texts.

“Everybody deserves to be on the mobile Internet, and price shouldn’t stand in the way of anyone having a truly good smartphone to get them there. Moto G is a smartphone that delivers a premium experience for a third of the price of current high-end phones. Quite simply, it’s an exceptional phone at an exceptional price.” said Andrew Morley, General Manager of the UK, Motorola, a Google company.
