Windows Phone 7 Series – ask your questions!

Postby Matt » Tue Feb 23, 2010 8:37 pm

WP7-logo I'm sure that I wont have to remind anyone that Windows Phone 7 Series (what we all thought would be Windows Mobile 7) was announced just last in a Microsoft press conference held at MWC in Barcelona.

Personally I'm really looking forward to seeing Windows Phone 7 Series for myself, particularly the 'Live Tiles' and the 5 hubs.

Now I bet you have a lot of questions about Windows Phone 7 Series which is great because Microsoft have granted us an exclusive Twitter interview this week. We'll be talking to Alex Reeve, Director of Mobile Business Group in the UK, via the Windows Phone twitter account. The interview will take place on Thursday 25th February at 12 Noon. I will be asking the questions and Alex will reply in real time.

So follow me on Twitter @TRACYANDMATT and the Windows Phone Twitter account @WINDOWSPHONEUK to see both sides of the conversation.

Please submit your questions via This Forum Thread and we'll ask Alex Reeve the most appropriate ones during the interview. If you miss the session live we'll also post a copy here after the fact.

how does windows live messenger fit into the series 7 experience, and can it be run in the background whilst we do other tasks, or is it a push based system??

1. Is there true multi-tasking in WinPho7?
2. What are the full hardware requirements to be satisfied by phone manufacturers for WinPho7?
3. Will all current Windows Mobile applications be totally obsolete/non-compatible with WinPho7? Or will there be some sort of application or software that will enable the running of "legacy" apps?

I am concerned about what I have seen so far regarding Windows Phone 7. It seems to have lost everything we love about Windows Mobile (customisation, flexibility, open-ness, wide range of apps) and tried to copy everything we hate about iPhone (locked-down UI, restricted app store).

What do Microsoft have to say to loyal Windows Mobile users like me?

Hi,

As per the previous comment about Windows Phone 7 Series - I don't like the new interface / Hubs etc. I don't like to be tied down to one UI (love HTC's Sense UI), and don't like the fact that all the apps I've purchased are not going to be compatible with WinPho7Series. I've had a Windows Moble since 2004 and loved them all, but my next phone is going to be an Android or Blackberry.

That asside, can you answer 2 questions please? Exchange support - is Windows Phone 7 Series going to be able to support multiple Exchange mailboxes? And again with Exchange support - is it going to be able to support Exchange Public Folders? Both of these features are not supported in the current WinMo / ActiveSync enviroment.

Thanks

Lee

With this shift in direction Microsoft seems to have finally realised that mobile computing must be accessible to all people not just the stylus holding/poking community.

Almost instantly I saw this as a replacement or an alternative to windows 7 home edition because essentially simplifying the tasks ordinary users may want to carry out is the basis for Google's Chrome OS and the Apple iPad only nowhere near as visually exciting and as clear as windows phone series 7.

So my question is when will this approach be rolled out to home computing and even information based education as I can see this style of OS working for reference library's for schools and colleges?

Is there a joined up marketing strategy for Windows Mobile?
The winners of the "Windows Mobile Train Race" - were announced about a month ago - great, woo, and then nothing. These apps that were developed -is\was there any intention to release them? if so - when? if not - what was the point?

Thx

It was much the same when I interviewed him at MWC. Pretty much everything we want to know he is not allowed to talk about. :(
