4 Recent Innovations in Video Game Development

Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 00.44.05The global video game industry is estimated to be worth £80bn and is one of the fastest growing sectors, overtaking the movie and music industries; in part due to an influx of new technologies and developments. We have looked at some of the recent trends and innovations that are shaping the video game industry:

Preview Programmes

Preview programmes are a new trend becoming popular with game studios, which allows gamers to feedback into the development process. Steam Early Access and the Xbox preview programme allow gamers to access new titles before they are finished so that they can have a say in the finished product. Small studios are breaking away from the traditional publishing models and incorporating gamers’ opinions into the development process to create a better gamer experience.

Some studios are even live-streaming the development of their video games, making the whole process more transparent for gamers. Dutch independent game studio Vlambeer has 12,000 users subscribed to its live-stream; the closer audience interaction also means that there are more gamers advocating the game even from the early stages of development.

Virtual Reality

A number of virtual reality gaming headsets are set to hit the market in 2016, including the much talked about Oculus Rift, Sony’s Project Morpheus and Microsoft’s HoloLens. The virtual reality field has so far been dominated by headset technology, but some companies are exploring different technologies; two Amazon patents recently released have revealed their plans to develop AI technology that avoids the need for a headset. This new take on virtual reality uses a projector and single light source to map a room in 3D space.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

According to Microsoft, video games and AI research are ‘mutually beneficial’; AI technology can be used to create virtual characters that behave realistically and intelligently within the game world.

For the gamer, this means that non-player characters are capable of planning and learning in a way that more closely mimics real-world situations. Google has already contributed by creating a network that can look at a complex image and describe in natural language what is happening.

For developers, this means utilising some of the new resources for game development that incorporate AI technology into the process. Recent versions of game engines such as Frostbite 3 for PlayStation and Xbox, or FPS creator Reloaded for Oculus Rift incorporate artificial intelligence into their development framework to create more realistic in-game experiences for the gamer.

Computer-Developed Games

Moving on from artificial intelligence within video games, a researcher at the UK University of Falmouth has created an AI program that develops its own games. The program is called ANGELA – ‘A Novel Game-Evolving Labrat I’ve Named Angela’, and it uses parameters set by its creator to develop video games.

It is essentially a computer algorithm that learns to make a game; as time goes on, ANGELA requires less and less input from its creator. So far, the games created by ANGELA don’t compare to human-developed video games, but as the program learns more over time the aim is that it will be able to write its own code and develop independently.

Videoconferencing – Where do you Want to Talk?

shutterstock_151167128The concept of video conferencing was once the sole domain of science fiction as you are no doubt aware, but things have changed considerably since the days of old, and with good reason. Technology has marched forward at a considerable pace, and with smart devices at everyone’s disposal, it should be no surprise that companies like the BlueJeans are taking clear advantage of it. There are a few things that you must understand about the new video conferencing software, particularly how it will help you to connect to your employees or co-workers better.

We’ve Come this Far

How far have we come with video conferencing exactly? What changes have been made? Do you remember software like Netmeeting? Do you remember how difficult it could be to arrange a meeting with that software? Yes it was lightweight and it did come pre-installed on every machine from Windows 98 all the way to Windows XP, but it did have its share of limitations, for example the ability to run solely on Windows which created compatibility issues. For many years companies have dreamed of having the ability to connect anywhere regardless of the device or operating system. Just imagine being able to video conference through a web browser back in the nineties – that would definitely take the cake. These days, believe it or not, web browsers are very much able to perform tasks such as chat, video conferencing, file transfers, etc. The changes in web browsers have given them so much more capability than the HTML display application they used to be. Now, a web browser can be your portal to the world, at least with the right plugins.

What Device do you Want?

The most important question right now, is where do you want to chat from? Where do you want your employees to chat from? Holding a conference has never been easier, and the available software supports a number of different platforms. Whether you want to bring a smartphone to the table, or perhaps want to chat from your computer, all you need to do is click a button. The video conferencing software today even supports Google Hangouts, meaning you never have to install any software – it just works.

Imagine a scenario where you have several employees out of the office and you need to hold an emergency meeting. In the old days you would need to coral everyone into one place, which can be quite inconvenient, and it can be bad for business. There are several commodities in business that cannot be measured tangibly but are critical nonetheless:

  • Money
  • Employees
  • Time

Notice how we have bolded the last point: time. When they say that time is money, they aren’t kidding. Without time you would be unable to complete even the most basic of tasks, and the more time you waste, the less you will be able to accomplish. The more time your employees spend in the office having meetings, the less time they will be spending with clients, and that’s really bad for business. That being said, now would be a great time to start looking into a better video conferencing software. Remember, videoconferencing is not necessarily JUST for contacting foreign investors or customers in other states, though it is most certainly useful for that. Conferencing software can be focused on employees as well as outside contacts, and the newest software can save more time than you realize.

So long as everyone in your office has a compatible device and a good connection, they will be able to participate in your meetings, and soon enough, you will have a much higher level of productivity. It might seem like a small change, but a good software for online conferencing like Blue Jeans UK can literally change the way you do business, and that’s definitely worth looking into.

Go to the Cloud

Author Stream recently published a paper outlining some of the benefits of cloud computing, and particularly, moving video services to the cloud. Rather than relying on software that is installed locally, make sure that you find a company who can provide you with a cloud solution.

The cloud is an amazing innovation, and a great way to save money according to Tech Target, though not new by any means. In terms of video conferencing, it means that you will not have to deal with the administration of the software, and it means that you will not have to worry about compatibility issues. A piece of software served from another location will be compatible with all browsers and all operating systems across the board. Going to the cloud is one of the best things that you could possibly do for your company. Start looking into the benefits of taking your video to the cloud and it won’t be long before you’re saving both time and money.

How video interview software can help grow your business

indexIt’s been said multiple times that time is money And this is key to how video interview software can help grow your business.

Let’s sit down and do some simple math.  Imagine you’ve got a team of New Hires which need to be acquired in the next month for a division of your sales’ floor.  You’ve got to employ twenty of them, and you have a candidate pool that is four hundred strong.  Each of the candidates in this pool has qualifications which make them a fit for the position, but any hiring agent realises that how a person appears on paper, and how that person is in real life, aren’t the same thing.  Either the person over or under represents themselves; or there are outright lies on the paper.  This is why physical interviews are so important.  But the biggest component of a physical interview is the visual aspect.  Ergo, video interview selection software is a way to have your cake and eat it too.  Rather than coordinating four-hundred interviews and setting aside several valuable days of company time, you can just use some combination of automated video interviewing software, or online video interviewing software, to have a prospective candidate answer a few questions and help you determine immediately whether they fit the bill.

So on the math end, if it takes ten minutes to conduct an interview and ten minutes to decide if an interviewee fits the requirements of your organization, then you can conduct three such interviews in an hour, or twenty-four in a day.  That’s assuming the day is eight hours.  Now most organizations allow for a one hour lunch/break combination throughout the day.  This means you can get twenty-four interviews completed over the course of nine hours if everything is proceeding ideally and there are no delays.  Let us continue from this assumption.

If there are 400 applicants, you’re looking at 16.6 work days in order to find that 20 person sales team you are after.  If the hiring personnel are paid $20.00 an hour, you’re looking at a flat $3,000.00 for that hiring person to find your 20-person team. (16.6 work days X 9 hours (including break) per work day, X $20.00 = $3,000.00.)  By contrast, if you’re using automated video interviewing, the individual can make a determination based on several pre-prepared questions and isn’t required to sit through the entire interview.  In such a way you can zoom through the 400-person candidate list, find the twenty who best fit your needs, and conduct all twenty of those necessarily personal interviews in a single workday.  At most, you’re looking at 18 hours (two work days) multiplied by $20.00, which comes out to $360.00, or just over a tenth of the cost involved in interviews that aren’t conducted via video interview.  With arithmetic, it’s easy to see how video interview software can help grow your business.  Utilizing it in this scenario would save $2640.00 in a single month.  Imagine if you’ve got to hire a new sales team monthly.  Video interview software could save you around $32,000/year at the rates discussed here.

So when you ask how video interview software can help grow your business, numbers give a solid answer that’s difficult to contend against.  Sonru is a purveyor of video interview software that stands to save you thousands every year, if used correctly.  Imagine what you could do with an extra $32,000 in malleable assets annually available to your business.  Sonru can make such things a real possibility, allowing your business to grow unimpeded.  Contact Sonru for video interview solutions that are absolutely quantifiable.

38 year-old Eutelsat poised to disrupt the mobile banking solutions market.

Demand for high-speed internet soars

Today’s consumers expect access to high-speed internet everywhere they go. They want to use their internet connected devices to get the information they need, whether they are meeting with friends and family at a coffeeshop, taking a vacation during the holidays, or camping at a remote location.

Before they decide where to spend their time outside of their homes, they first check whether the place they are going offers access to the internet. They want the ability to upload pictures and videos faster. They want to be able to download documents faster. And they want to watch videos at high-definition resolutions without buffering.

Because of that, businesses and public places that do not offer a way for consumers to connect to internet are having a hard time attracting customers. And they are losing business to those that make it possible for customers to connect anytime.

And it’s not just consumers that expect high-speed internet at the places they frequent.

Employees demand access to high-speed internet at the workplace too. The business applications they use everyday to get their jobs done and communicate with their colleagues are increasingly hosted on cloud-based servers, which can only be accessed through the internet. Employees feel unproductive without high-speed internet. And they are demanding better internet connectivity at work as a result.

Eutelsat delivers affordable high-speed internet

Eutelsat, a French-based satellite provider, has helped businesses meet the challenge of delivering high-speed internet to customers and employees since 1977, across all seven continents.

As one of the leading business internet providers in Europe, Eutelsat’s satellite services are used across a wide range industries, including automotive, banking, energy and utility, public and private safety, media, and tourism industries.

Several businesses count on Eutelsat to deliver fast broadband internet access to their customers and employees, making it one of the most trusted and reliable telecommunications companies in every country they operate in.

Tourists who stay at Recreatiepark Slot Cranendonck, a popular campsite in the Netherlands, are able to access the internet from 99% of the campsite after the campsite operators installed four small Eutelsat satellite dishes.

Installing the satellites has become a competitive advantage for Recreatiepark Slot Cranendonck because tourists choose to stay there instead of other campsites, who don’t have easy and high-speed internet access.

The broadband internet service also serves as an additional source of revenue for the campsite because customers don’t mind buying access codes to connect to the network. That makes it possible for the operators to cover the costs of installation and expand the service to other campsites they manage.

Eutelsat is ready to serve the underbanked

Due to the success Eutelsat has had with its toowayTM Business solutions in other industries, executives believe there’s an opportunity for more growth in the banking sector, specifically mobile banking solutions.

Africa and many remote rural areas across every continent lack access to banking outlets and cash machines because these locations don’t have the infrastructure needed to deliver these services. Eutelsat’s KA-SAT satellites have the capacity to provide the secure and reliable broadband connectivity financial institutions need to reach the underbanked.

As one of the world’s leading satellite operators, with 38 years of experience commercializing capacity on 35 KA-SAT satellites across many industries and every continent, Eutelsat brings their market expertise to the banking sector as demand for high-speed internet soars in remote rural areas.

Summary

One of the world’s leading business internet providers that delivers global coverage for broadcast, data and broadband markets eyes the mobile banking solutions markets. Eutelsat wants to partner with banks to serve the underbanked everywhere.

It even supports a lot of languages, so you can use it natively according to your preference.

There’s actually a solid reason as to why the recovery software free download is so popular. It is so easy to get started with using the file recovery software – download, install and launch. No questions asked and no unnecessary email that you have to give-away.

Say for example if you want to perform a photo recovery of your digital camera, this recovery software free download comes with two progressive scanning modes:

  1. Quick Scan – helps you to find deleted files
  2. Deep Scan – helps you to find formatted, inaccessible or lost files

It will be able to help you recover anything from pictures, videos, audio, emails, documents and everything else in between. You can even pause at any time during the scan and continue later, but it is advisable to complete the scan as soon as possible to maximize the chances of photo recovery.

Another cool feature of this file recovery software is that you can specify the exact file type and location before you even start the scanning process. So if you want to perform a photo recovery from your digital camera, just select Graphics and your Digital Camera. This will ensure that the recovery software free download application saves you precious time and gives you the exact files that you want. Once it finds all the recoverable files, you can then filter your search by file name, type and date. Top 4 Questions To Ask Your Screen Repair Centre

Iphone-Ipad-posterCracked screens are one of the main reasons for getting your iPhone, iPad or iPod repaired by an iPhone back glass repair expert. Due to their size and portable nature, it is only a matter of time before the inevitable happens. As the screen is made of glass, any cracks can leave dangerous sharp edges that can cause injury. Over time the cracks will get worse, so it’s a good idea to cover the affected area with sellotape to protect your fingers and to stop loose glass falling out.

If your device has been dropped onto a hard surface then, it is quite common for the metal edges of the rear cover to be dented, particularly on the corners. As the metal is aluminum this can dent very easily. The good news is that in most cases, the rear metal cover does not need to be replaced in order to fit replacement glass. As the metal is fairly soft, it is relatively easy to straighten out any dents to ensure the new glass fits properly. If you cracked your phone’s screen, you can try this out.

iPhone Cracked Screen

The first thing to check is whether you can still see images on the iPad. If there is no distortion and the colours appear normal then the underlying LCD is unlikely to have been affected. For the vast majority of screen repairs, there is no need to replace the underlying LCD.

Many iPhone and iPad users are unaware of what is involved with a cell phone screen repair which is why we’ve listed the following questions that may help you make a more informed decision.

tips

Ask About…The Quality Of The Glass

There are lots of thin imitation screens available on the market and whilst these may work initially they are far less durable and more susceptible to crack even during normal handling. The thicker the glass the more durable it is which is why it is important to ask the repair centre what they use.

Ask About…The Adhesive Used

We have seen countless examples of screens coming away (delaminating) from repair centres that haven’t used the correct adhesive. You should make sure that they use same high strength adhesive that was used in the original iPad or iPhone. This type of adhesive can be easily found in stores like the California Industrial Rubber Co. store.

Ask About…The Testing

Due to the complexity of modern smartphones, a screen replacement involves opening up your device and the careful re-fitting of components. This is particularly important if the device is being posted back to the customer as it is not easy to ‘pop in’ to rectify any problem.

Ask About…The Warranty

To give reassurance, repair centres offer warranty for any repairs – some provide 90 days, others don’t offer anything,  Fone Angels provide a 12 month warranty on all our repairs as standard!

If you’re wondering where to locate the very best screen replacement in Albuquerque, click on this site.

5 top tips on choosing the right kids GPS tracker

Screen Shot 2015-07-15 at 07.22.44For any parent or caregiver, your children’s safety is of paramount importance. Whilst it used to be impossible to keep an eye on your children’s every movement, the right children’s GPS tracker will enable you to do just that.

There are a number of factors which contribute to finding the perfect kids GPS tracker. These range from signal quality to the size and efficiency of the tracker itself. Below are five of the most important things to consider when purchasing a tracker for your children.

1)      It needs to track effectively from indoors and outdoors

A GPS tracker can have an array of handy features, but the most crucial thing is an ability to track consistently from any location. Some trackers have been criticised by customers for an inability to keep a consistent track unless held outside, and pointed skywards.

Whilst sometimes it’s convenient to use the tracker outside, at other times you’ll need to use it in the house, the office or travelling between places. This means that the tracker you purchase needs to be reliable and versatile enough to track from a variety of different locations.

2)      Live tracking is crucial

Live tracking enables you to monitor your child’s movements in real time, and retains a complete history of prior activity, on your personal mapping setup.

This means that you can go back through a history of previous movements, to see if you’re happy with the general pattern of where your child is spending their time, as well as to review their whereabouts during a period when you were unable to check the tracker.

It also means that if you suddenly notice your child somewhere that you don’t want them to be, you can react in an instant and make your way to them – knowing exactly where they are at every moment.

3)      Your tracker should have a customisable secure zone and boundary area

Many of the places your children will go – such as walking to a local shop, going to school or meeting up with other family members pose no real risk. This means that whilst your youngsters’ safety is always vitally important, there are times when you can relax. After all, there are enough stressful moments as a parent!

Thankfully, some GPS trackers have developed a perfect compromise. Their technology enables users to set a customised secure zone. If the child leaves that specific area, both you and other designated individuals can receive a text or email alert to inform you that they are outside of what you consider safe areas for them.

As the kids get older, this customisable format allows you to change the locations within this safe zone at any time.

4)      You want something small, portable and lightweight

Whilst innovative technology and reliability are the most crucial elements of a good kids GPS tracker, it’s also important to have a tracking device which is small and lightweight.

Considering that you – and your child – probably have the device on your person a good deal of the time, you don’t want something bulky or uncomfortable. With that in mind, it’s a big benefit to have a tracker which can just be slipped into a pocket, purse or for your little ones, a school lunch box or soft toy.

Trackershop offer some of the most effective, portable and lightweight personal GPS trackers available anywhere.

5)      Long battery life is important

This might seem obvious, but it’s important to find a tracker which has a long battery life (preferably one of several days), to facilitate constant tracking even when you’re in a situation where charging the device simply isn’t tenable – for example when you are in a remote location for any period of time.

Ahead in the Clouds…

Ahead in the CloudsWhat is The Cloud?

So, what exactly is The Cloud?  Put into simple terms, Cloud Based Storage is a sort of online back -up, a means of saving files onto the Web rather than just your computer’s hard drive.  Your information and files can then be accessed from any computer, anywhere with a connection – which is virtually everywhere these days – just by logging in.

Compared to the potentially massive costs – in terms of both time and money spent – of running your own servers, and then the costs of any IT support if anything were to go awry – it can be relatively inexpensive as well as reassuring, too.

A bit concerned about putting all your information out there?  Don’t be, security has come on in leaps and bounds since the inception of Cloud-based storage, with the best business storage service providers using an encrypted connection when you upload or download a file, or when it’s synched across your devices.  The majority also encrypt the data when “at rest” – that is, when it’s stored on their servers – so even they will have no idea what you’re storing.

What Benefits Does it Bring to your Business?

  1. Save everything.  Never, ever lose a file again.  Your files are stored securely, usually over multiple sites, meaning that in the event of a physical loss such as theft of office laptops, or disaster such as fire or flood, you don’t lose your files.  Of course, it makes sense to have more than one back up and store files locally as well.  There’s never anything wrong with a belt and braces approach.
  2. Automatic back-up.  It just happens, seamlessly and quietly in the background.  You need never fear a power cut or blue screen of death again.
  3. Convenience.  Files can be synched across all of your devices.  So, perhaps you’ve been working on a document but are meeting a client before heading home.  Save the document on to the cloud from your desktop, then continue editing it that evening, on, say a tablet to which that file is also synched.  In an age when many of us work from home, this is invaluable.
  4. Collaboration.  There are sharing mechanisms so you could securely share certain documents with staff or colleagues – either read-only or with anyone authorised (that is, those to whom you’ve chosen to give the log in details) being able to modify them.
  5. Money Saving. Possibly more cost-effective per gigabyte to store data, since Cloud service providers can provide the storage far more cheaply than you could provide the space on discs, plus offsite backup disks etc.
  6. Security.  Despite common fears, most cloud storage providers will have far stronger security than the average business has in place.  Cloud providers are like any other major Internet company with regard to their procedures to protect themselves from being hacked. However in their case their entire business and reputation would be irreparably damaged if they were breached.  Just make sure your password is totally different from any others (perhaps even consider a password manager… but that’s a whole other story) and if possible enable two factor authentication.
  7. Choice.  There are now countless Cloud service providers out there, so you should be able to find exactly the service and provider that fits your requirements.  Budget is a major factor, but security is paramount.  Look for good tech support, and is data-only backup enough or do you need full disaster recovery.  There’s a provider for every business.

In this day and age, storing everything in the Cloud is definitely the way to get ahead – and stay there. Take a visit here to acquire some more information.

San-iT are a North West based company offering a range of Cloud services and cloud support options for your business.
