Samsung may launch two foldable displays in early 2017

folding-display-galaxy-samsungWe keep hearing rumblings from Samsung that a phone with a foldable display is on it’s way and now a new report from Bloomberg suggests the phone will be unveiled at next year’s Mobile World Congress. The South Korean manufacturer is said to be mulling two models with “bendable” displays. One phone with likely feature a 5-inch display that can be unfurled into a tablet-sized 8-inch screen. The phone will not be the first to feature a bendable AMOLED screen, as Samsung already uses the technology on its current edge devices and even dating back to the Gear S smartwatch. The difference is that the edge screen is fixed in place, Project Valley is said to offer a malleable display.

From Bloomberg:

The devices using organic light-emitting diodes could be unveiled as soon as early 2017, the people said, asking not to be identified because the matter is private. The second Samsung model will have a 5-inch screen when used as a handset, that unfurls into a display that’s as large as 8 inches, similar to a tablet, the people said.

Codenamed “Project Valley,” Samsung could unveil one or both of the devices as soon as February, when Mobile World Congress takes place in Barcelona, one of the people said.

Project Valley has been bouncing around for a while now and seems to be one of the hottest new technology since VR took the spotlight from Smartwatches.

Samsung Galaxy X to feature a foldable 4K display

samsung-foldable-tablet-1We have heard rumours over the last few years that claim Samsung have been working on a foldable phone. We have seen images of flexible screens is all shapes and sizes. However it sounds like Samsung might be bringing this angle to the market in 2017.  The latest rumour comes from the site Weibo in China. According to the sources, Samsung will release five flagships in 2017. Four of them are the standard launches: Galaxy S8, S8 Edge, Galaxy Note 7, and Note 7 Edge. A fifth device is being called “Galaxy X,” and it will apparently feature a foldable 4K display. The display will have diamond PenTile subpixel arrangement and fold in half like a wallet. That’s all we know so far about the Galaxy X.

There has been a drive over the last year to resurrect the flip phone thanks to TV shows glamorising the form factor on many Primetime TV shows. Rather than stepping back to the T9 days of the flip phone it makes sense that we take a step forward and make the modern technology bend to our needs and desires.

Then again other have the idea that it might contain a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 chipset with 3GB of RAM. Perhaps there will be two devices and both of these rumours might be correct. Stranger things have happened.

Google working on a Pixel C?

google-chromebook-pixel-2-540x334Rumours are afoot that Google is to launch a new Pixel device in the coming months, not running Chrome OS. It will be a 10.2-inch Android tablet with detachable keyboard and marketed as the ‘Pixel C’. A new Pixel tablet is said to be designed by Google, made from high-grade parts and might be arriving in the next couple of months.

The Pixel C, code named Ryu, will have a 10.2-inch display with 308ppi and a super-bright back light capable of 500 nits. Inside there’s an NVIDIA X1 quad-core processor and Maxwell GPU. This is supplemented by 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

The build quality will continue to feel like a Pixel, which have all offered metal designs and gorgeous screens. The tablet will look like the existing laptops, just minus the keyboard.

A little bit of brand confusion to shake things up. Google has a line of Android tablets called Nexus, the Pixel name has always been synonymous with Chrome, why meddle with that… unless is dual boots ChromeOS and Android 6.0?

The Huawei Watch. Why they were pulled.

2yZ26IV (1)Four new smartwatches appeared on Amazon, and we taken down almost immediately. Eagle eyed Redditors managed to preserve the images online, I have attached them below for reference. Four colour variants were available for pre-order. A stainless steel/black priced at $350 sat at the lower end of the range. A solid black was on the next rung at $450. Gold/Brown was priced at $700 and a solid gold tops the package at $800.

Each device is to run Android Wear and we know in the past Google had mentioned they want to have Android Wear work with the iPhone, the Huawei Watch states in it’s description that it is compatible with iOS 8.2. Perhaps this is the reason it was taken down.

The description shows a launch date of September 2nd. With any luck this will be at IFA in Berlin, and I’ll be there to get a hands on, or an on wrist to be more specific.

Leaking the Huawei Nexus 6

QQ_20150824155811Some images have appeared online today of what could possibly be the Huawei Nexus 6 refresh. A few days ahead of the Huawei launch of their new flagship phone these images may be something other than the new Nexus. The claims are coming from a Google+ user, Tiessen Fu insisting the device was given to him by a friend working on the Nexus successor.

For a design this radically different to the current Nexus 6 Google may be making some insane marketing choices. However, there is a lot to be said about breaking the mould and going with something different. It would be a hard sell to ask a company to keep some of the design influences from the previous model built by an entirely different manufacturer. Certainly companies do this however with a Nexus there is no need to imitate as the name and brand are already established.

I hope this is the new Nexus 6, whilst many are suggesting that it is a ugly ducking I find it refreshing to see something a little different.

Sneak peak at the Blackberry Android slider

here_is_a_short_glimpse_at_a_blackberry_venice_promo_video-news-13619.phpTop leaker Evan Blass, @evleaks, has posted a beautiful video of one of the most exciting announcements we are hoping for in Berlin in two weeks at IFA. The high-end Blackberry smartphone that will run Android, might debut as early as next month during IFA with sliding QWERTY keyboard. The pictures were called out as fakes almost immediately due to differing keyboard layouts however as there is nothing concrete right now we are going with exciting rumour and we hope what we see here is what we are getting. This could the be most exciting combination phone this year and a relaunch of the physical keyboard.
