HTC Touch Diamond

HTC Touch Diamond in Orange Catalog

Categories: News

The HTC Touch Diamond is the one device that everyone seems to be talking about and lusting after at the moment and today I discovered that the phone maybe a step closer to launch on the Orange network, as it appears in their latest (June) catalog as one of the devices in the 'coming soon' section.

As you can see from the scan above it looks like Orange are simply calling it the HTC Diamond, dropping touch from it's name.

No official release date from Orange but our sources suggest that it will be sometime this month (June).

We should be getting our review unit in the next few days so please let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything specific that you would like us to cover.

I've heard that the release on Orange will be 22nd of June. That comes from someone within CPW.

I'm considering one of these on Orange, but I've heard that the response from the touch interface can be a bit sluggish. I'd be interested to hear what you think.

Cheers.

Its is being launch on the 23rd of june ,if you look at the up to date videos on youtube the interface is not sluggish ,the old videos were demo's phones with less memory on board . the new phones will have more memory,ok

...or apparently not. Orange are now saying they don't know when it's out.

Think I might just go over to O2...

Comment from: anon [Visitor]
Doug, can you tell me where you got the Euro ROM from please?
30/06/08 @ 12:33
Comment from: Paul [Visitor] · http://www.htc.com
to be honest, O2 coverage is not that great, 3G is not as good as orange
or vodafone.

i have checked the maps and they seem to be better than O2.

i really wouldnt mind getting this on vodafone as i can assume they are
better than orange, but the only thing is is vodafone's tarriffs, they
hardly have any good text tarrifss. so i will be venturing to orange now
to look at the zoo of animals. ^^

Anon, it was Windoze9t8 with the ROM, not me.

Jeese, i'm starting to think i've dreamt that the HTC diamond is coming out on orange. Been ringing orange each day and i get a different answer each time.

i just hope when it does come out that i actually manage to get one as i can see there being a big demand on this phone.

hopefully the world wont end b4 orange actually release it...!

Just spoke to Orange and no release today unfortunately! They reckon sometime within the next 2 weeks......
The wait continues!
What are everyones thoughts on the samsung omnia? No sign of it even on "coming soon" pages of any network but they press launched it the same day as the new iphone!

2 heinz beans cans and a length of string, motorola startac, nokia 6210i, nokia 6310i, sony ericsson t18, nokia 6100, nokia 6600, nokia 6680, spv c500, nokia n80 (big mistake!), spv m3100, HTc Tytn2, who knows what next!
07/07/08 @ 12:42
You can get this phone now on O2 or T-Mobile.

I'm reading that some Orange stores have the phone in stock, but if you call CS or use the website you'll get nowhere.

Just spoke to my local Orange store. They are expecting stock by the end of the week. Could be anytime.

Any reason why Doug?
08/07/08 @ 15:54
Comment from: anon [Visitor]
The X1 looks nice too, but I am really put off by the size of it, the same reason I don't want the iPhone. I think I'll still get the Diamond. My friend knows an Orange shop manager, so I'm getting a call as soon as they arrive. Woohoo!
08/07/08 @ 16:19
Comment from: Doug [Visitor]
Charlie, the interface was a bit slow, and in some cases didn't respond at all. The buttons felt a bit shabby too. Obviously the iPhone has a better interface, as that's the best thing about it. But the lack of MMS and the poor camera, combined with UK O2's tariff just don't cut it for me.

I've not tried an X1 yet, but I think it sounds promising. The rumour is for a September release.
08/07/08 @ 19:41
Doug,

Where did you try one out? Did it have the newer ROM?

Matt
08/07/08 @ 19:49
Comment from: Charlie [Visitor]
Doug, Not sure about the X1, I do have concerns regarding the size of it. I don't want an iPhone just because of the size. I know the Touch Diamond isn't much smaller, but every little counts for me. I really can't be bothered having a big lump in my pocket, and the Diamond seems to do everything I need. I think I might just have to live with it being a bit laggy at time, and hope ROM updates might sort it. The X1 is just too think for me, although it does look very nice. Don't forget the Touch Pro coming out at a similar time I think. Looks very promising, again too thick for me though.
08/07/08 @ 21:20
Comment from: Doug [Visitor]
I will take a look at the Touch Pro. Although given the problems we're having identifying a date for the Diamond, goodness knows when the Pro is coming out.

I know what you mean about the X1 being thicker, but I'm more prepared to compromise on that than I am on function and useability.

T-Mobile monthly data cap is 1GB for £7.50

Anyone know what the Orange capping is? Their website is next to useless... I mean, unlimited for 2 months?! So what do you pay after? £8 for 30mb it would appear (the Orange World Data bundle) unless someone can link me to different information.
09/07/08 @ 11:35
Comment from: Charlie [Visitor]
As far as I am aware Orange have a 500MB cap, but you do get that every month, as long as you sign up for an 18 month contract of £35 or more per month. Of course with the current £5 off online on their contracts, I think you can therefore get it for £30 a month.

Anyone know how decent 500MB is?
09/07/08 @ 13:09
The 500MB is extremely good value as on the new business tariff 500MB will cost you £250!!

Search for "unlimited bundles".

It says 500MB per month.

Oh my..!

Moses parted the red sea...

Noah saved the recreation of mankind...

Jesus drunk red wine...

and now Orange finally release the HTC Diamond. Just ordered mine with a solo 35 tariff and they said it should arrive within 3 days. I was quite surprised they were still in stock but the woman was cautious that it may go out of stock whilst i was on the phone so if you haven't already, ring them quick..!

I feel like i have achieved an ambition he he he.

Hopefully it lives up to its nurtured hype and that i dont have to send back within the 8 days.

The best things come to those who wait..... despite the usual orange hiccup of letting new customers getting the phones before existing customers, i have ordered my upgrade! Just missed the delivery deadline for tomorrow so need to wait till Monday!
First time in 4 upgrades i havent had to go down the retention route, staying with panther 45, taking the unlimited landline calls and the "unlimited" browsing. Having to give up my orangeworld browsing which i was paying £8 for 1000mb a month, not sure im doing the tight thing there but time will tell. Also losing my free insurance so that balances out the reduced cost for data. Should save about £2 a month!
Fingers crossed!

Got the HTC Diamond today after a long wait..
panther 45 for £25 a month for 9 months and then £30 a month for rest 9 months..
hope orange doesnt muck up the diamond software too much..
i hate it because the software that orange adds to the phone normally slows it down further and it looses some of its original features.
does any one know when i can debrand the handset as really dont want the orange software on it at all..

Still, Waiting for my phone been told its going to be monday... Hurrayyy

OK... after a long wait for this in the UK I finally picked this little jewel up on Friday straight from Orange.

Build quality is superb and I get massive interest everytime I place it on the table in my local pub....it looks amazing.

I used the HTC on the net for around 12hrs so far and it's cool. No problems, just a few sites not displaying correctly???

Downlaoded a few of talking books and take the HTC to bed with me every night. Totally delighted with it...

Still need to pick up a nice leather case for it. Any recommends?????
