HTC TyTN II offical ROM update now available

A few days ago Mark told us about the expected release of the TyTN II offical ROM and performance update. Well today I can confirm that the official ROM is now available for download from the HTC website (htc.com) but only through the e-club.

In order to download the update you must have an HTC branded TyTN II (not an Orange version for example) and you'll have to register its serial number through your e-club account. Once you have done this then the download will be available as a "Phone Software Update" in the "My Downloads" section of your account.

The download is just over 66MB in size and the update process takes around 20 minutes to perform. This is a full ROM update so EVERYTHING will be wiped from your TyTN II during the upgrade so be sure to backup all of your important data before you begin the update process!

Drop by and let us know how you get on and, if you had any issues with your TyTN II before the update then did the ROM upgrade help?!

Update went fine first time - no issues whatsoever. Main difference is screen change from portrait to landcape is now MUCH quicker. Threaded SMS is intersting. Battery life and signal quality will get figured out over the next week or so. A wothwhile exercise!

Don't understand the first comment. My experience has been TOTALLY negative, even though the update went fine.

1. I lost nearly 30MB of space. Most irritating is that instead of starting with 60MB of program space I'm now below 50MB. Find myself in the high 30MB range as the day goes on and only my Today screen apps are running.
2. Touch seems much less sensitive if finger is used (stylus still about the same).
3. I see no speed improvement with videos using Media Player.
4. I see no speed improvement when opening my keyboard to switch to landscape mode.
5. Internet Explorer is nowhere near Opera Mini. The narrow vertical view in the 'Zoom In' mode still leaves you with a half-hearted browser.

I'd go beck to WM 6.0 in a second if I could.

I have been very happy with my TyTN II since I bought it in October. Don't understand this garbage update.

The screen switching is actually slower although it does look better. Clearly HTC now do some sort of double buffering which is probably why the ROM uses more memory. This again can be clearly seen on the diamond.

Some sites have again advertised this as a performance update though my experience is this has even more lag. Certainly no graphics drivers.

The radio is better, and the battery life improved, though I already had this with unoffical ROM updates from xda-developers. Infact this is a step backwards from the ROM updates available there. HTC are a joke.

Can anyone help? I tried to download the ROM upgrade and it said my serial number was invalid. I tried a few variations on typing it in but no success.

My Tytn is an HTC registered one. Has anyone else experienced this at all?

I have a TyTN II and updated it with 6.1. that went well till I found the June version of skype did not work on it.. now there is a new version of skype and that works fine.

My prob is that mine is an Australian version and would like to load the UK rom version, but as some of the above notes show, there is a registration of the serial with the region. HTC have explained that this is a licensing issue linked to each region. I have the Asia version of the rom for those like me with an Asia serial number and could exchange the s/w for the UK version.

some of the benefits: not sure there are any of real substance:
sms are linked, better comms manager, , best go to the microsoft web for Windows mobile and look there.

If you need to save data tht i on the phone's rom and also settings, then go to the sprite website for mobile phone/pda version of their backup prog. Its very cheap and works a treat.. however, be careful on what you restore.. as 6.1 has some differences!!!

what is the difference between window mobile 6.1 and ROM version? Does it mean that we are using the latest ROM version when we have the window mobile 6.1?
