Last week I mentioned that MWg had just launched the Atom Life and this it was now for sale over at eXpansys. I've just managed to get my hands on an Atom Life for review and I'm working on the review at the moment. As you should be able to see from the unboxing video below, the Atom is an attractive looking WM phone with a pretty decent specification and is a device that I'm looking forward to putting through its paces.

    Hi Matt,

Can you please comment on the battery life during a typical use (i.e. no WiFi or BT, but with GSM radio on)?

    Thanks,
    Preston.

Hi guys, really enjoyed the video review and I'm thinking of ordering one of the units but your last comment is making me feel this could be a poor choice. Any news when your full review will be available?

Your review was one of many that helped me buy this phone.
I cant help but sound like a fan. This Atom Life is very stable (as stable as winmo 6.0 is), very capable, fast, and beautiful- the glossy finish motivates me to baby it.

I recommend it for the price, and the great value you get. Battery life I am pleased with... this is not a dedicated cell phone. you get 2 days worth of juice. Just buy extended batt later on.

    Negatives: only minor cosmetics:
*Paint finish- its paint therefore vulnerable- get a case. I use a belt horizontal case. Silicone will do as well. Side buttons more vulnerable due to heavy use.

*Screen size makes it hard to find a screen protector- need to cut it- trial and error. Buy Nitendo DS screen protector and cut it CHEAP u get 2 per pack

    ****-
I'm very pleased with this device. It does just about everything I wanted - 3G, wi-fi, large & very responsive touch screen (typing with the virtual qwerty keypad is much quicker than any mini slide-out qwerty I've tried) & is capable of VPN & remote desktop connection (essential for remote access to our office).

It's crashed on me a couple of times - eg trying to Cut & Paste while editing a text message (which works fine elsewhere, eg editing an email). Only solution at the time was to pull the battery out as even the power button had frozen.

As with many phones, if you take the battery out the clock resets. Other memory is retained though (thankfully) so this isn't too much of a hardship.

My main gripe with the phone is its remarkably short battery life. I use the phone quite a lot - mostly for email/text, not so much for voice & it is set up to sync to 2 email accounts every 5 mins during the day - but even so I only get about 36 hours. So I find I need to charge it almost daily. Switching on wi-fi drains the battery even faster, so I rarely use wi-fi.

Otherwise, I think it's excellent and great value. With a tracyandmatt.co.uk discount voucher mine was under £200 including delivery, SIM free. Compare that to an iPhone or N96...
