A few days ago I told you about our new Netgear SPH101 Skype WiFi phone but yesterday we got our hands on a new Netgear SPH200D Dual-Mode Phone with Skype.

The Netgear SPH200D combines Skype's VoIP calling facilities with regular 'land line' a based phone both of which work over a DECT connection from handset to base station.

Set up is extremely simple: Plug the Dual-mode Cordless Phone Station into your Internet router (Ethernet port) to make your Skype calls and plug the base station into your phone line (PSTN) wall jack to make land line calls—from the same cordless phone.

It'll take us a little while to put the review together so here is the unboxing video that you have probably all become accustomed to!

Our intial tests with the Netgear SPH200D look good, so far we have not had any problems with it and call quality seems about perfect but we'll have more for you soon.

For anyone wishing to contact us via Skype you can do so via our Skype username: tracyandmatt or using our Skype-in phone number: 0208 123 3757. We are always happy to hear from our readers!

The Netgear SPH200D can be purchased from eXpansys.

can you use browser based authentication? all the other skype phones I've seen have been compromise because you aren't able to log onto a public wifi spot that requires log on through a regular browser - is this one any different?

No, unfortunaltely you can't use browser-based authentication.

Hi, I'm thinking of buying this phone: Any more comments since you have been using this phone now for three weeks?
Great blog!

I purchased this phone 2 months ago. The phone is awesome as far as what it is meant to do, which is why i gave it a 4/5 star rating. The drawbacks are for future versions to fix. The only real disappointment as far as cons go is the lack of thought in the voicemail notification. If you have ALREADY READ voicemails, it still displays the voicemail icon and will tell you how many you have. Personally, i save some voicemails, so being reminded everytime i check a new one how many i have is quite annoying. One other gripe that i did not put was the lack of memorized contacts. This is a good because it forces the phone to sync with ur skype account everytime you add or delete contacts.

Do have any information regarding compatible headsets for this Netgear SPH200D Skype Phone?

No, sorry I have no idea. Can only suggest you call NetGear.

Thank you for the helpful blog!
o you know whether one can download one's Outlook contacts to the phone memory, or do you have to put them all in manually?
