Good news for Samsung i600 owners - according to sources at Smartphone-web Samsung will be providing Windows Mobile 6 for the Samsung SGH-i600 and what's more, the upgrade will also be free of charge!

Although this information isn't truly official yet, we understand that Samsung Germany have already published the link for the upgrade, a release date has yet to be announced.

At the moment the upgrade is only for Samsung's own version of the i600. As yet it's not yet clear if Vodafone or Orange will offer upgrades for their branded version of the i600 as well.

Thanks for the news, two questions from a non-technocrat?
1: Am i the only person out there that hasn't been able to synq the i600 with vista? IS it a current problem?
2: Would WinMobile ver 6 fix this problem

I believe there are some issues here. You do realise that you can't use ActiveSync with Vista though dont you? You have to use Windows Mobile Device Center? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx

I'm not using Vista here at the moment so cant really offer any help but maybe someonw else can?

I upgraded to an Orange Samsung i600 on Tuesday (having checked in the Orange shop that the phone wouldn't crash on changing ringtones/alarms - it was fine, straight out of the box). I also use Vista (Ultimate edition) and had no problems synchronising the phone & PC once I had installed WMDC (surprising that I should even have to do that on the Ultimate edition) - you don't even need to run the installation CD that comes with the phone - once WMDC is installed it automatically detects the phone and provided you allow it to, will deal with setting up a partnership without any problems - it really is far superior to Activesync!

I am planning on getting the i600. For a 3GB/month plan and given my expected phone usage, I seem to have two choices:

- T-Mobile: Web 'n Walk 35 plus (12 months) for £47.50pm plus £300 odd for a sim-free handset (plus an unwanted handset); or

- Orange: Orange Solo 800 (18 months) for £23.50pm for 9 months and £47pm for 9 months and the handset for free (on 3g.co.uk).

Clearly, the latter is a cheaper (even if I sell the handset). However, some questions:

1. What functionality (other than the MSN Messanger) has been removed from the Orange version)? In particular, has the ability to be a modem survived unscathed?

2. Aside from the generally irritating orange-ness of the interface and the lack of the roller-deck, are the any other drawbacks with the Orange conversion? In particular, can you chose the default page for the internet, or do Orange direct to the joys of Orange world?

3. How easy if it to:

(i) reflash or
(ii) hack

the handset, so that it looks normal once again?

4. Any update on Orange's HSDPA coverage. They stated that they were intending to roll out to London and 5 other cities in 2007. Has London already been done?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I have reposted this on the "Orange Samsung i600 problems?" thread, as it seems to belong there. Please ignore the above posting.

Has anyone got the i600 to sync with Vista via Bluetooth?

Uh-oh - the UK flag has dissapeared from the available upgrades screen...
