Turn Any Wall, Ceiling or Floor into an Interactive Touchscreen

Touchjet Pond smart projectorToday, on the heels of one of the most successful Indiegogo crowd-funding campaigns of all time, Touchjet launched the Touchjet Pond Projector™. It’s the first consumer device that turns any flat surface into a super-sized touchscreen. A device that fits in the palm of your hand, the Touchjet Pond Projector is ultra-portable and can easily fit in a briefcase, backpack or purse. With the projector, users can interact directly with their photos, videos, games, apps and presentations on a large touch display (up to 80”) anywhere they go.

Built on the Android 4.4 operating system, the projector gives users access to hundreds of thousands of apps that can be downloaded directly to the device via Google Play. Users can also directly project from almost any smartphone or tablet using a third party app. The unique design and infrared (IR) technology brings any Android app to life with an interactive screen that users control with a stylus. Check out these Great Floors that can look amazing at your house.

In addition, Touchjet previewed the Touchjet WAVE™, the second product to leverage Touchjet’s proprietary touch technology. The Touchjet WAVE turns almost any flat screen TV or monitor into a touchscreen Smart TV (up to 60”) and features a compact, unobtrusive design with easy setup.

It will launch on Indiegogo next month and will be widely available later in the year. For more information on discount rates and early access, visit the website here:www.touchjet.eu.

“Mobile devices do a great job of keeping people connected, except when they are in the same room,” said Helen Thomas, CEO of Touchjet and former SVP of Worldwide Sales at Livescribe and GM of APAC International Business at LeapFrog. “We’re creating devices that take the interactivity of mobile apps and project it so everyone can share the experience, be it in the living room, classroom or a board room. Need someone to install you timber flooring at home? visit this site for more.

College classmates Tom Li Jiang, president, and Liu Zhen, CTO, recognized that mobile devices were isolating people, as families, friends and colleagues spent more and more time “together” staring at separate screens. It’s a concern shared by families as well. A recent survey showed that 71 percent of moms feel they are losing their kids to digital screens[1]. Tom and Liu founded Touchjet and developed the Touchjet Pond Projector and The TouchjetWAVE to change how consumers interact with their devices and each other, opening the door for shared experiences.

The unique technology that powers the Touchjet Pond Projector starts with the light processing unit (LPU). Positioned near the lens of the projector, the LPU picks up an infrared signal which then runs through an image-processing algorithm. That process translates the location of the user’s gesture into a standard touch point signal. The Touchjet algorithm must process thousands of points and dozens of projected frames per second in order to deliver the seamless interactive experience. The same infrared technology is applied in a similar fashion to the Touchjet WAVE.

The Touchjet Pond Projector can be set up in moments and is easy to use. Just turn on the projector, download the apps and start to interact with the content on the surface. Users can instantly play games, edit documents in real time or watch videos, all in one place. The options are endless:

●      At home: Bring family and friends together to play games, watch movies, share pictures and more. With the ability to use two styli at once, friends and family can join in on the fun, too. The projector can also replace other home media options — the 80” screen and functionality of Android apps make it a complete entertainment package that costs less than buying a similar-size TV and gaming console for the home.

●      In schools: Create an interactive classroom with Touchjet’s built-in Android system. With access to hundreds of educational apps covering an array of topics from learning how to read to recognizing colors and shapes, Touchjet brings an interactive lesson plan to groups of students that counter balances individual tablets and Chromebooks that are taking over the classroom.

●      On the go: Whether traveling for work or for pleasure, the projector’s portability is a real asset. Weighing in at 273 grams and equipped with a built-in speaker, the Touchjet Pond Projector is ideal for giving presentations, watching movies in a hotel room (or anywhere), chatting with loved ones or playing games.

The Touchjet Pond Projector’s price starts at £599.99 and includes:

  • Touchjet Pond Projector with a built-in computer pre-loaded with Android apps, the Android operating system and 18 GB of user-addressable memory

●      1 Power Supply (5vdc, 3A)

●      1 Battery

●      2 Styli

●      1 Airmouse

●      1 USB (OTG) cable for PC hookup or accessories

●      1 User Guide

●      6 AAA Batteries (for the two styli and Airmouse)

●      1 Carrying Case

Archos Fusion Storage is here

af2Some months ago we mentioned Archos were designing a new range of tablet that could combine various storage solutions in one larger resource, all under Android. Meaning that a 16gb model became a 80gb model if a 64gb SDcard was added. Pretty fantastic solution to a problem that has more than likely annoyed who has a low storage phone or tablet. Archos have pioneered the technology and it is rolling out to a few of their devices over the next few days. We will host a video showing our experiences this week.

Archos Fusion Storage, a software innovation, recently unveiled by the French brand at MWC 2015, will be available via update (OTA) from May the 5th, 2015 on the Archos 101 Oxygen, Archos 50 Diamond, Archos 52 Platinum, and the Archos 50 Oxygen Plus.  It merges the internal memory capacity of the equipment itself with that of the Micro SD card in order for users to enjoy more applications or content.

A long-awaited feature by Android users

With over 25 years of experience in software development, especially on the Android platform, the R&D team of Archos worked on the lower layers of the operating system from Google and its Kernel core. It thus provides a much-needed storage option for users of Android tablets or smartphones. This feature automatically reconciles the memory allocation problem between the internal storage and microSD card while providing increased capacity.

af

Key elements of Archos Fusion Storage

  • The main advantage for the user is that significant space is gained to hold more applications and content. Upon activation of the merged storage, data is automatically accommodated in the internal memory of the tablet or smartphone and is then sorted. The application files will be sent primarily to the internal memory of the tablet or smartphone, while data, photos, videos, and more will be directed to the memory card. The space of the device is thereby increased and optimized considerably.
  • Another advantage is a reversibility of the process. The fusion of internal storage with the external storage SD card is seamless: the user can choose to return to the original separated settings at any time.

Lenovo carries on the 4GB trend

screenshot-190Asus announced a new line of phones earlier this year, the pinnacle of which carried 4gb of RAM. Now Lenovo has announced a with a new phone called the K80 that combines both 4gb of RAM alongside a massive 4,000mAh battery.

The device has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 64-bit 1.8GHz Intel Atom processor, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization and 64GB of internal storage. Measuring at only 8.5 millimetres thin, which is only a hair thicker than the iPhone 6 Plus at 7.1-millimetre the have to give kudos to Lenovo for accomplishing this with such a large battery.

Lenovo is releasing the phone in China on April 30th and will sell it for just $290, an incredible value for the specs. We don’t know if the device is scheduled for a release here in the UK. Perhaps we will see a new Motorola or Nexus device with the same hardware components. Just in time for iPhone 6s to be grabbing headlines?

Google did not pee all over Apple

screen-shot-2015-04-24-at-121719Over the weekend an addition appeared on Google Maps to show Android peeing on its biggest rival in Pakistan, near the city of Rawalpindi. As you could imagine, Google did not mastermind the Android mascot’s depiction.

Google has now apologised for the gaffe in a statement to the Washington Post, saying: “We’re sorry for this inappropriate user-created content; we’re working to remove it quickly.

“We also learn from these issues, and we’re constantly improving how we detect, prevent, and handle bad edits.”

The Android mascot has been removed from the location. A Map Maker account holder was responsible for the sly attack, which was submitted without being reviewed. An investigation will likely follow.

A new Samsung watch might be round… the corner

Next-Gen-Gear-SDK-Teaser-Title-2_w_600

Round smart watches seem to be in garnering most of the attention at the moment, aside from a certain square Apple offering.

Motorola has the 360, LG has the G Watch R and the Watch Urbane, and even Huawei are showing off a most delicious model, so it’s been rumoured for a while that Samsung’s next Gear could be round, too. Recent images of the UI seem to confirm this. Along with hinting at the shape of the new Gear, Samsung also look to be working with some of the partners on applications for it, such as CNN, Yelp, Baidu, FidMe and Apposter.

There is, as yet, no indication of what OS the new Gear will be running, Safe bet is to be Tizen. The current Samsung wearables SDK is Tizen, and Samsung has a vested interest in promoting its own OS on its wearables, rather than producing a new Android Wear device. Samsung have also been pushing the standalone watch like the Gear S, it can’t use Wear as Google’s wearable OS doesn’t support this feature.

Google launches a slick promo for something Fi

Screenshot 2015-04-23 07.35.41A new, beautiful promo has been launched by Google to … advertise (?) Project Fi. A promo that actually contains no information about the service, merely a hint of what they are doing. According to the website “Project Fi is a program to deliver a fast, easy wireless experience in close partnership with leading carriers, hardware makers, and our users.” A statement mirrored in the promotional video and leaving the average viewer somewhat bamboozled by what they have just seen.

So what is it? Essentially this is a new approach to a mobile network. Project Fi automatically connects to more than a million free, open WiFi hotspots that have been verified as fast and reliable. This technology helps keep speeds high and data bill low. Starting at a $20 per month base plan for 3GB, with a flat $10 per for every additional GB of data. This same rate is applied even if you have over used what you planned for, and you get roll-over data that could lower your next month’s bill. An interesting tactic is that Project Fi utilises WiFi calling where no LTE is available.

Also merges all devices for calling/texting purposes much like we have already seen for Google Voice and Pushbullet text facilities already. Using public WiFi is usually a concern for some as it’s not the safest, apparently this data/voice over WiFi part of the service is encrypted and this will be achieved by Google pushing the traffic through a VPN service keeping you more secure.
