PewPew.com

If you like old school style shoot them ups then PewPew for the PlayBook is a must. With three different styles of game within the game PewPew is fast, manic but most of all fun.

PewPew is the best multidirectional shoot them up on BlackBerry PlayBook.  It’s basically megatons of enemies and many different game modes, everything rolled up with sweet smooth retro graphics. Win medals, unlock ships, and compete on the online ladder board.

Best news is that it is a free game!

A BlackBerry that does mobile fingerprints

Screen Shot 2012-02-17 at 18.23.23

I happened to be watching a video from Essex Police today on YouTube about a mobile fingerprint device when ‘shock horror’ I saw that the device is incorporated with a BlackBerry. That got me super excited.

Officers on the beat can now check an individual’s identity within two minutes thanks to a mobile fingerprinting device.
The gadgets, which were introduced in Essex in July 2011, allow officers to scan a person’s fingerprints and check them against the national fingerprint database.
The devices were given to Essex Police by the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) and mean people can be identified much more quickly, saving the public and police officers time and making it difficult for people to lie about who they really are.
Officers across Essex, including those at Stansted Airport and the county’s ports, have been trained to use the devices.

You can see the mobile fingerprint device in action below.

Plants vs Zombies on the BlackBerry PlayBook – Video

Plants vs

We told you yesterday that Plants vs. Zombies had arrived for the BlackBerry PlayBook. At that time it held a price tag of £7.00 but later in the day that dropped to £5.00. Still not cheap but as you will see in the following demo video it runs beautifully on the PlayBook.

With PlayBook OS 2.0 coming very very soon and the number of Android developers that have now registered to port their games over to the PlayBook OS I think App World is about to get a whole lot busier.

I have played Plants vs. Zombies on other platforms and it is great that this superb game is now available for us BlackBerry fans.

sony-ericsson-logoX-500x375

The deal is done. Sony has parted with £871 million to buy out Ericsson and the company will now be know as Sony Mobile Communications with Bert Nordberg remaining as president and CEO.

Sony said in a statement: “Sony will rename Sony Ericsson “Sony Mobile Communications”, and further integrate the mobile phone business as a vital element of its electronics business, with the aim of accelerating convergence between Sony’s lineup of network enabled consumer electronics products, including smart phones, tablets, TVs and PCs.”

“With a vibrant smartphone business and by gaining access to important strategic IP, notably a broad cross-license agreement, our four-screen strategy is in place. We can more rapidly and more widely offer consumers smartphones, laptops, tablets and televisions that seamlessly connect with one another and open up new worlds of online entertainment.”

Now I can look forward to a Smartphone that looks just like my TV!

Plants vs. Zombies now available for BlackBerry PlayBook

Plants

At long last one of the most popular games for iOS and Android has hit BlackBerry App World today. Plants vs. Zombies will set you back a whopping £5.00 but for that money you will get hour upon hour of addicted fun.

Get ready to soil your plants in the hit PopCap game! A mob of fun-loving zombies is about to invade your home, and your only defense is an arsenal of 49 zombie-zapping plants. Use peashooters, wall-nuts, cherry bombs and more to slow down, confuse, weaken and mulchify 26 types of zombies before they can reach your front door.

Each zombie has its own special skills, so you’ll need to think fast and plant faster to combat them all. But be careful how you use your limited supply of greens and seeds. as you battle the fun-dead, obstacles like a setting sun, creeping fog and a swimming pool add to the challenge. The fun never dies!

We will have a demo video up on the site in the next day or so.

Barclays launches first service for sending money by mobile phone number

pingit

The Barclays Pingit service will be available to current account customers of all UK banks and building societies, not just those with Barclays current accounts. At launch, only Barclays current account customers will be able to send money via the app, but all current account customers (UK residents and over 18), will be able to register online to receive money. The app will be available to all by early March.

The service, which is free to use, links the user’s current account with their mobile phone number. This enables payments to be sent directly to that account but without the sender needing to know anything more than the recipient’s mobile phone number. Money is sent using the Faster Payments service. To send money, customers can use the free Barclays Pingit app available on iOS, Android and Blackberry, or they can register online to receive payments. Transfers are as safe as any other banking transaction and the app is protected by a five-digit passcode, set by the user.

It is expected that this will prove particularly popular for friends and family sending money to each other. Barclays Pingit can also be used by some small business customers of Barclays and other banks, for example sole traders such as window cleaners or plumbers, meaning customers can pay them quickly, easily and securely.

FB

We mentioned yesterday that the Facebook application for Windows Phone 7.5 had received a rather nice update so I thought I would record a quick video to demonstrate the app in case you are thinking of jumping on the Windows Phone band wagon.

The following items have been introduced/updated in version 2.3: News feed performance improvements, New panorama design, New profile design, Banner Images, Improved navigation, Pages, Groups, View "likes", Feed filters, Posting privacy and Bug fixing.

The app is now so much better and brings things more on par with the Facebook application on other platforms.
