RIM show off more of BlackBerry 10 ay BlackBerry Jam Americas

Thorsten

BlackBerry®Jam Americas 2012, formerly the BlackBerry Developer Conference, has kicked off on September 25 in San Jose, California.  The conference is a showcase for the bold, new direction BlackBerry is heading with the upcoming BlackBerry® 10 platform. The flow of ideas, passion for the platform, and drive to succeed is in full display at the conference.

During his keynote, Thorsten Heins, Chief Executive Officer at Research In Motion (RIM), clearly demonstrated that the company is delivering on its vision for BlackBerry 10 to a global audience of partners and developers.  More sneak peeks of BlackBerry 10 were also shared.

BlackBerry 10 is designed to make users more productive and more efficient.  With Flow, which is at the core of BlackBerry 10, home buttons are gone and there is no need to exit an app to open a new one.  Users can move easily from task to task, and check in on their conversations, wherever they may be. With BlackBerry 10, RIM is expanding its leadership in communications, NFC, mobile social media, as well as collaboration in the enterprise.

You may want to check out the video below where Vivek Bhardwaj of the BlackBerry 10 product team shows off a few new features of the OS. It’s impressive stuff.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be in store on October 1st

Note 2

Samsung Mobile UK has today announced that the Galaxy Note II will be available from Monday 1st October from the Samsung Brand Store at Westfield, Stratford City and across all major networks in the UK. The Galaxy Note II launches with Android 4.1 JellyBean and an upgraded Google Now service, which includes new features such as contextual search. With a 1.6GHz Quad-Core processor and HSPA Plus, owners of this new device can enjoy super-fast screen transitions and performance when browsing the Web, as well as quick app start-ups.

Simon Stanford, Vice President, UK & IRE Telecommunications & Networks Division, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “The introduction of the original Galaxy Note was a great success – we succeeded in creating an entirely new category and went on to sell more than ten million devices globally. With the Galaxy Note II, we’re not only expanding the category, we’re also evolving the technology to the point where it genuinely feels as though you’re using a traditional pen and paper. What’s more, it’s a device that everyone can use – whether that’s a fashion designer drawing a new design, or young professionals using the multiscreen and pop-up features to edit a document, send an email and browse the web – all at the same time.”
“We were delighted by the hugely positive response we received when we first announced the Galaxy Note II at IFA back in August. The Galaxy Note II is a whole new level of innovation and we are confident users are going to enjoy the updated features and design of our latest Galaxy device when it hits the shelves on the 1st of October.”

Apple iPhone 5 unboxing video

iPhone 5 unboxing video Announced a little over a week ago, I’ve just managed to get my grubby paws on the new iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 has had something of a mixed reception, many reviews claiming it’s just a longer iPhone 4s and that it’s a lot of money to pay for an extra row of icons. However, there are just as many reviews claiming it as the best phone ever and lauding its stunning looks and performance.

As is our way, we’re unboxing a black iPhone 5 in the video below and you can see it beside the 4s and compared to the white version.

Utano Barrier T180 unboxing video

utano-barrier-t180-ip67-rugged-android-phone-gps-3g-[5]-175-p We’ve looked at ruggedised phones quite a bit in the past, from those truly built to be life proof like the JCB toughphone range to those from Motorola and Sony which tend to more water and dust proof than truly drop and shock proof.

Clove Technology sent us over the Utano Barrier T180 to have a look at. This is a true IP67 rated android smartphone that has the added benefit of dual-sim capability.

This is the first time we have seen a dual SIM Smartphone within the UK which uses Android. Anyone who regularly travels abroad will understand the benefit of being able to use alternative network providers in different countries, without having to constantly remove the battery.

The rugged design of the Utano Barrier T180 means that it can be taken to where you need it. It is able to withstand water, shocks and dust, so you don’t need to be constantly worrying about it.

Not only do you want your Smartphone to be tough, you also want it to be capable of running the latest apps. The Utano Barrier T180 features a 800MHz Qualcomm processor, so you’ll be able to experience a responsive user interface and access to your favourite media.

To ensure that you can fully utilise your apps a 3.2″ capacitive IPS panel has been included. This provides bright vibrant colours and has the benefit that you have a wide viewing angle. It will also bring videos and photos to life, so you can fully enjoy them.

But hang on a moment, isn’t this just the JCB Pro-smart in new clothing??

See for yourself in the unboxing video below.

Samsung Galaxy Beam unboxing and demo video

samsung-galaxy-beam-2012 Remember the Pico Pocket projector that we reviewed a few years ago? Well what happens when one of those mates with a mobile phone? You get offspring that look like the Samsung Galaxy Beam of course!

We never got to play with the original Beam announce a in 2010 (the i8520) and to be honest I don’t even know if that made it to market in the end, maybe it was a little too soon but this new model Galaxy Beam (i8530) is on sale now and you can pick it up from the chaps at Clove Technology.

The Beam has quite a decent specification even without the projector; rocking 768MB RAM, Dual Core 1GHz CPU and 5MP camera. It may not be top of the range but add in the DLP projector and we’re looking at a whole new proposition.

The nHD projector (where the hell did nHD come from?!) is 15 lumens and 640×360 pixels. It doesn’t sound too bright and really it isn’t but get a reasonably dark room and the little LED powered projector does a half decent job. How practical that is within real world environments is perhaps questionable. I’m not sure that rocking up to a meeting with this little device in tow and asking for the lights to be turned off and the blinds closed would really cut it nor can I see it working so well with your mates in the pub.

One disappointment is in the OS department, the Beam ships with Gingerbread 2.3.6 which I hope would see an upgrade in the very near future.

Anyway, check out the unboxing a demo video below and see for yourself.

Whether you prefer to game on PS3®, Mac, PC or Xbox 360®, or all of the above, the U 320 consistently delivers the best sound quality on all devices for a truly immersive gaming experience. Perfect for those who want to enjoy high-end gaming without accumulating multiple headsets for multiple devices.

Headset

The average age of gamers today is 25 and ‘mature gamers’ play on consoles more than they play on PCs, which is why Sennheiser created the U 320, to offer a consistent high-quality sound experience on every platform. So, if the kids have hijacked the Xbox®, there’s nothing to stop you from simply plugging the headset into a Mac, PC or PS3® to enjoy your gaming time alone without disturbing others.

The U 320 is born out of Sennheiser’s 65-year experience pursuing the perfect sound, and is designed to emphasise the different types of distinctive gaming sounds. The sound spectrum of the U 320 is superbly amplified, resulting in the legendary Sennheiser sound. Plus the bass boost is easily adjusted to fit your need for clear explosions, crashes or background music.

Thanks to great comfort, the U 320 is wearable for as long as a gamer wants to enjoy the getaway from everyday life. The open-acoustic design helps you keep a cool head, and the soft-padded unique CircleFlexT design ensures that the ear pads adjust automatically, making the game experience a comfortable thrill.

“The U 320 ensures the best conditions for enjoying your favourite game. We’ve worked hard to develop a consistent sound, regardless of the platform, and believe that our efforts will contribute to players everywhere enjoying a better sound experience,” says Product Manager Christian Ern of Sennheiser Communications.
