Russian LG Nexus review appears online

LG-E960 Nexus 4 Android new 1It would appear that Russian site Onliner.by has managed to somehow get a hold of one and has done a full review of what is now known as the LG Nexus 4.

Unfortunately the entire site is in Russia and so with the help of Google Translate, we are able to read most of this review. The review is of a prototype version of the LG Nexus 4 so the reviewer suffered from some initial problems with the device. The device is 134 × 69,2 × 9,2 mm, weighs 139g making it smaller than the Galaxy Nexus. Other remarks include no pogo pins for accessories, there is a multi-colored LED notification, micro SIM slot is on the left side, the back completely smooth and glossy, and the sides of the device are made from a matte black rubberized plastic. Most of this could be speculation from the rumour mill and unconfirmed pictures.

O2 apologize for UK outage

o2logo

Around 10% of the firm’s 23 million customers are believed to have been affected by the yesterday’s outage problem, with O2 admitting people in some areas had been unable to make or receive calls, texts or access data services.

Last night, an O2 spokesperson told Sky News: "Further to our previous update where some customers in some areas were unable to make or receive calls, send texts or use data, service has been fully restored for all remaining impacted customers.

"Once again we’re are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused."

Asked about whether any compensation would be offered, the spokesperson said: ”Our first priority was to get customers back up and in service. We’ll now need to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the problem.”

All Orange and T-Mobile stores to be rebranded as EE by the end of the month

EE Logo

The word on the street is that all 700 Orange and T-Mobile shops in the UK will get the new redesign to convert them into EE stores by the end of the month when the EE 4G LTE service goes live.

Prices of the new 4G tariffs are still to be announced but they will be made public prior to the 4G roll out. In the meantime Orange and T-Mobile customers can purchase 4G ready handsets which I believe are the iPhone 5, Huawei Ascend P1, HTC One XL and the Samsung Galaxy S3.

We will of course publish the price plans once we have them – not long to wait.

SGS Mini

Samsung Mobile UK has today unveiled the Galaxy S III Mini, a compact version of the flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III. If you fancy picking one of these beauties up you can pre order it now SIM free from Clove for £298.80 including V.A.T.

Simon Stanford, Vice President, Telecommunications & Networks Division, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “The award winning Galaxy S III has been extremely well received globally since it launched earlier this year so we are thrilled to be able to offer our customers the same revolutionary design, intuitive usability and intelligence in a mini version. We will continue to develop smartphones to cater for a variety of customer needs and this latest release demonstrates our ongoing commitment to offering our customers more choice at every price point.”

The Galaxy S III Mini is powered by Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), the latest version of the world’s most popular smartphone operating system, benefitting from fast, fluid and smooth graphics along with a new Google SearchT experience featuring Google Now.

Stylish and compact, the Galaxy S III Mini shares the Galaxy S III’s breakthrough design and simple elegance. Its ultra-minimal curved frame creates a rich natural feel, which is also reflected by its nature-inspired home screen, wallpapers and ringtones. A beautiful 4.0-inch Super AMOLED display offers a generous viewing experience that means multimedia and Web content can be viewed in brilliant colour and clarity. The compact size of the Galaxy S III Mini offers customers a comfortable grip and a convenient one-hand operation.

The Galaxy S III Mini is packed with intelligent technology designed to make interacting with the phone incredibly natural and intuitive. Your voice can also play a favourite song, turn the volume up or down, organise your daily schedule, or automatically launch the camera and start taking photos.

The Galaxy S III Mini also understands human gestures to make using the phone easier and more natural. With Smart Stay, the phone’s camera tracks a person’s eyes and keeps the screen lit as long as they are looking at it. When reading a text message from a friend or family member, Direct Call allows customers to automatically call that person simply from the motion of lifting the phone to their ear; and Smart Alert conveniently alerts people to missed calls or messages as soon as the phone is picked up.

Content sharing is easy and fast on the Galaxy S III Mini. Its S Beam feature allows a 10MB music file to be shared in just two seconds by simply tapping on another S Beam-enabled device, such as the Galaxy S III or Galaxy Note II, even without a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. The Buddy Photo Share function also allows photos to be easily and simultaneously shared with friends pictured in an image directly from the camera or the photo gallery.

Hands on with the Sony VAIO Duo 11

IMG_20121010_151241

I’m a Mac user and very happy to be one. However I had the chance to use Sony’s new VAIO Duo 11 yesterday running Windows 8 and I was actually pretty impressed. Costing about a thousand pounds I couldn’t justify spending the money myself but for business users this thing may well rock.

The VAIO  Duo 11 is half tablet – half laptop. With a 11.6 inch HD screen and full QWERTY keyboard it really is a beauty. But slide the keyboard away and you have a nice big tablet which will certainly appeal to some. Weighing in at 1.3KG it isn’t the lightest  tablet but combined with the keyboard it is a nice portable solution. With ports galore – D-SUB and HDMI outputs, twin USB 3 ports, Ethernet and an SD card reader the Duo 11 may well be your new best business buddy.

You can check out the video below we would love to hear your thoughts in the forum. Would you buy this or a nice MacBook?

ZTE say they pose no threat to the USA

huawei_zte_logo1-568x500

We mentioned yesterday that ZTE and Huawei had some issues with their equipment being ‘security’ safe in the USA. Today ZTE have responded with the following statement:

October 9, 2012 – ZTE today reiterated its support for its Trusted Delivery Model and renewed its commitment to work with the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (Committee), government agencies, and the private sector to address all cyber security concerns.

ZTE has set an unprecedented standard for cooperation by any Chinese company with a US congressional inquiry. ZTE has presented the Committee with ample facts that demonstrate ZTE is China’s most transparent, independent, globally focused, publicly traded telecom company. ZTE is listed on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges. The company already is recognised as a Trusted Delivery Partner by 140 governments and 500 network carriers.

ZTE’s equipment is safe for US telecom infrastructure. In its Fourth Recommendation, the Committee encourages companies to offer “more consistent review by independent third-party evaluators of their cyber security processes.”  The Committee has credited ZTE with advocating a solution, based on a Trusted Delivery Model, in which the telecom vendor transfers hardware, software, firmware, and other structural equipment elements to an independent third-party threat assessment laboratory with US government agency oversight.
