The technology features remote locate, lock and wipe to secure the device, if it is stolen, plus call and text blocker and anti-phishing web protection to protect against the growing number of mobile threats and scams.  The findings from Symantec’s recent Internet Security Threat Report (ISTR) show that mobile vulnerabilities increased by 93 per cent in 2011.

Everything Everywhere sim card allows for remote control cooking with the iTotal Control Oven

image003

Yes, you did read the title correctly! This one strikes me as being a little odd but I suppose it is a natural progression in technology.

Everything Everywhere, the business that runs Orange in the UK and the country’s biggest communications company, has today announced that AGA Rangemaster has selected its proprietary M2M Management Platform and SIM cards from Orange for the new AGA iTotal Control oven.

By integrating Orange SIM cards into the new AGA iTotal Control oven, AGA customers can maintain complete remote control over their ovens, wherever they are. Those with no internet connection can text their oven with simple commands such as “baking oven on” or “all ovens off”, and will receive a reply confirming the action has been taken.  It takes less than one hour for AGA ovens to reach temperature, and the new functionality will enable customers to plan ahead when it suits them.

For customers with a smartphone or tablet, applications can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store that provide a visualization of the AGA iTotal Control oven, which can be controlled by touchscreen.  For those people not on the move but not at home either, a dedicated web portal has been designed to allow them to control their AGAs from a PC or laptop.

Nvidia Kai – Cheap Quad Core!

kaiforcheaperquadtabs23NVIDIA is working hard to make good on their promise to make $199.99 Tegra 3 quad-core tablets possible. NVIDIA’s VP of Investor Relations, Rob Csongor recently revealed during a recent stockholder meeting that the company is working on what it calls the "Kai" platform. He didn’t go into detail about it, but indicated that it will be a low-cost architecture that will allow for budget priced quad-core tablets. The stockholder meeting is pretty long at about 33 minutes, but we have included it in the source links below. Here’s a quote from the audio:

Quote:

Our strategy on Android is simply to enable quad-core tablets running Android Ice Cream Sandwich to be developed and brought out to market at the $199 price point, and the way we do that is a platform we’ve developed called Kai. So this uses a lot of the secret sauce that’s inside Tegra 3 to allow you to develop a tablet at a much lower cost, by using a lot of innovation that we’ve developed to reduce the power that’s used by the display and use lower cost components within the tablet.

Angry Birds Friends – Video

Angry Birds Friends

It looks like Angry Birds on Facebook is getting a boost. The above video was released on Rovio’s YouTube channel today and says that users will be able to compete with friends in weekly tournaments to win power-ups, with new levels to play each week.

I haven’t personally tried Angry Birds on the web. Maybe I will now.

HTC announce Android 4.0 road map

htc-logo-536x357

The nice people at HTC have published a road map showing us which devices will receive an update to Android 4.0 and when. There are a few of the lower end devices that are not on the list such as the Cha Cha and Wildfire S but overall the support looks pretty good and it is a big list.

And as you will see it is not only recent phones that will receive Ice Cream Sandwich. The Incredible S for example has been around since early 2011 and the same with the Desire S.

Nice job HTC.  You can see the full list below:

Everything Everywhere launches Smart Signal Sharing – the final phase of the ‘big switch-on’

EE Logo

Everything Everywhere, the UK’s biggest communications company, has completed the final stage of the ‘big switch-on’ – Orange and T-Mobile’s signal sharing project. Smart Signal Sharing will mean that if a customer’s smartphone, tablet or dongle 3G signal starts to fade, it will automatically and seamlessly prioritise signal from the other network. This means customers will get access to fast, uninterrupted 3G in more places, more of the time.

Olaf Swantee, CEO of Everything Everywhere, said:

“Smart Signal Sharing marks the completion of the Orange and T-Mobile signal integration project, which provides our 27.5million customers with the widest 2G and 3G coverage available in Britain today. The launch is yet another proofpoint to our commitment to provide our customers with the best network in the UK – now and in the future.

Our continued investment into the network, including the launch of 50% faster 3G speeds through HSPA+, allows our customers to access the internet, social networks or download emails faster in more places than ever before.”

Everything Everywhere confident in providing 4G this year

Everything_Everywhere_logo

Earlier on today I met up with experts from the Everything Everywhere team that are responsible for the future roll out of 4G across the two networks (Orange and T-Mobile).

The company are steaming ahead with plans to roll out the upgrade this year despite a final decision to made by Ofcom. Although the decision is still pending EE are under the opinion that it should all go through fairly painlessly and are under the impression that why wouldn’t Ofcom want the evolution in new technology. Even if the ‘go ahead’ is delayed, fear not as Everything Everywhere are still going ahead and installing the required hardware and software into existing cell sites so a role-out can begin as soon as the approval is met.

This will leave Everything Everywhere with a clear advantage over the other UK networks as they are yet to focus on 4G, so I am told. With HSPA+ 42 up and running we may well see the counties largest network grow even more?

Thinking about it, the company have done a wonderful job over the past year or two. Not only have they merged the Orange and T-Mobile networks together they have then integrated firstly 2G roaming and then more recently 3G.

Some of the current speed caps etc may not be perfect but I have a feeling that things are on the shift later on in the year.
