phones4u

Samsung Mobile and Phones 4u have today announced the opening of a new Samsung branded store within a Phones 4u store, in the heart of Central London. The store, which is located at 112-114 Oxford Street, will officially open to the public tomorrow, Friday 30th March, and will feature the widest range of live Samsung handsets available for demonstration anywhere in the UK.

The mezzanine area and a large portion of the ground floor at the Oxford Street store will be dedicated to Samsung. Customers and fans of the brand will have the chance to try out and buy products from across the range of high end Samsung smartphones and tablets. Three play tables will be placed on the floor containing Samsung hero products such as the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Tab series.

Within the Samsung dedicated area, demonstrations of product convergence will take place, as this becomes ever more important to customers who want their mobile phone to act as the remote control to their lives. The demonstrations will be run by a Phones 4u retail team extensively trained on, and passionate about, all Samsung products.

Customers will have a chance to see future technology first-hand via a 32″ TV which will showcase Samsung’s AllShare technology, which allows the sharing of content wirelessly between devices including phones, tablets, TVs, and cameras. Three large bays on the walls will display Samsung’s entire range of contract handsets and prepay handsets – all of which will be live – and an extended range of accessories.  As well as showcasing the latest and most technologically advanced products, the store will be used as a venue for launches and celebrity personal appearances in the future.

White BlackBerry Bold 9900 – Unboxing Video

white-9900_2

The BlackBerry Bold has been around for some time now. We had our unboxing video and review up back in November last year however It occurred to me recently we haven’t been hands on with the white variant. So a quick phone call to RIM and one arrived.

Clearly the difference between the white and the black version is only the colour so don’t expect anything new here. However, if you are looking to purchase the BlackBerry Bold 9900 it is worth considering the white one as it does look beautiful.

If you fancy a look at what it is all about you can see a quick unboxing below:

Sony Tablets and Ice Cream Sandwich

sony-tabletsSony Japan recently confirmed that their Tablet S and Tablet P Android tablets will soon be receiving the Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich update. They didn’t make it clear if this was an international release or if it was only for the Japanese market. Besides the tasty goodness of ICS, this update brings some additional features as well. Here’s a list:

  • Expanded photo capabilities – the photo app can be launched from the lock screen and enables panoramic pictures
  • A new “Recopla” app will also be included in the update for viewing TV programs that have been recorded on Sony Blu-ray players
  • A new “Small Apps” feature that lets users multitask more efficiently

As a side note, Sony also announced a Wi-Fi-only version of its Tablet P. It is scheduled to launch on April 21st. How many of you folks out there have either of these tablets? Sound off in the forums.

No mention of the UK yet however I would imagine that it wouldn’t be far behind or perhaps ahead of the US release. What makes this a good value is that it comes with a quad-core chip and Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. Here’s a spec breakdown:

  • 10.1-inch screen with a 1280×800 resolution
  • Quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor

  • 32GB of storage
  • Five megapixel camera capable of “HD” video recording (probably 720p)
