Kodak Easyshare Max Z990 review

Kodak Easyshare Max Z990 review Kodak as we all know, have been around for a very long time, providing great affordable digital cameras to the masses, but they haven’t often ventured into the what I would call ‘Beginner photographer’ market. By this I mean the Bridge camera as this is often seen as the stop gap between a blooming photographers becoming a professional user, the obvious next step after a bridge camera is a DSLR which are A LOT more expensive than this one.

I have in for review a brand new Bridge camera from Kodak named- Kodak Easyshare Max Z990. Will this stack up against the competition or fall flat on its face due to relative inexperience in the field of bridge cameras?

Read on to find out.

BBM 6: App Integration

bbm-logo-sm

So if you are a BlackBerry user you hopefully have downloaded BBM 6 today. You may have been a little disappointed not to see any changes to how the application looks and if you have not done any research you may well have been scratching your head wondering what all the fuss was about.

What this latest update has brought to BBM is app integration. There are a full list of apps that support BBM integration over on the BlackBerry Blog but I though the best way to show you quickly how it works is with the below video demonstrating how BBM now works with the popular Foursquare application.

Enough of me waffling. See the video after the break and lets look forward to more and more apps supporting BBM.

ViewSonic launches its new generation of low profile PJD5 series projectors

Screen Shot 2011-07-28 at 12.14.11

I know nothing at all about projectors but luckily ViewSonic know loads and this new range look pretty awesome.

Building upon a successful family of projectors ViewSonic have reinvigorated its PJD5 series with a new generation of products that continue to deliver high quality projection displays.
Weighing only 2.6kg the new generation of PJD5 series projectors are equally at home in the classroom, on the road, or in the boardroom, but now incorporate new additional features.
The entire family benefits from a sleeker optimised design, which reduces the profile by 20%, making the unit more discreet and adopts the highly successful top cover lamp access design, yet still delivers an enhanced brightness of 2700 lumens.
The range consists of five models aimed at providing users a choice depending upon their requirements; two with SVGA, two with XGA resolution and a WXGA model.
The PJD5133, PJD5233 and PJD5523w come with HDMI connectors, equipping them with all the features needed for a home entertainment or multimedia system.  Every projector in the range is 3D-ready, capable of accepting 120Hz input from sources such as Sky 3D, 3D Bluray or Sony Playstation 3 and when used with ViewSonic’s VP3D1 and PGD-250 3D glasses deliver an amazing 3D experience.

Trevor Holt, European Product Manager for Projectors says “This is the 2nd generation of 5 series projectors which we have improved based on customer feedback.  We have made subtle but important changes, such as introducing a built in presentation timer, mouse control function via the projector remote control and enhanced security with Kensington slot and security bar.   All these new features continue to differentiate ViewSonic projectors from our competitors.”

BBM 6 incoming!

BBM

BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), one of the largest mobile social networks in the world is now enabling a new and revolutionary social experience. Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced the availability of BBM version 6 (BBM 6), which provides support for "BBM connected" apps, allowing users to easily interact with each other from within the BBM connected app.

BBM connected apps integrate the popular functionality of the BBM service and offer users the ability to interact with their friends from within the app itself. For example, with a BBM connected game app, users can invite their BBM friends to join them in a game and then chat with one another in real time while the game is being played – without ever leaving the game app.

BBM 6 launches today and a selection of BBM connected apps are already available on BlackBerry App World.

“BBM 6 marks the beginning of an even greater social experience for BlackBerry smartphone users,” said Alistair Mitchell, VP, BBM Platform & Integrated Services at Research In Motion. “It also represents an incredible opportunity for developers to leverage the viral nature of the BBM service and we have already begun working with various developer partners who will be bringing their BBM connected apps to BlackBerry App World this week, offering users highly engaging app experiences.”

Samsung Galaxy S II coming soon to Clove in White

Screen Shot 2011-07-27 at 17.23.16

The chaps at Clove have given us a shout this afternoon to let us know that the popular Samsung Galaxy S II will be available in White from approximately 15th August.

Loads of iPhone fans waited for a long time for a white version so I am sure this new white Galaxy S II will be just as popular.

If you have not read our review of the Samsung Galaxy S II you can do so here.

Or alternatively here is Patrick’s conclusion if you have not got the time to read the whole thing now.

The Android space was dominated by the Galaxy S last year and I expect that this year the entire mobile space will be dominated by it’s successor. The hardware on the Galaxy S II won’t be beaten for quite some time (perhaps until this time next year) only to be matched by the HTC Sensation and maybe by the as yet unannounced new iPhone.

TouchWiz 4.0 really has matured and become much more useful and better to use than last year’s version and with Google’s recent announcement that Android handsets will be updated for 18 months after release, you will stay current if you purchase this handset. Especially, when Google releases Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung updates the Galaxy S II to this tasty treat.

It is truly the best smartphone that I have ever used. The hardware and software comes together in harmony and produces a fast, easy and productive handset that is an absolute joy to use. If you have any doubts whatsoever about buying this handset, forget them.  You will not be disappointed.

We don’t have a rating system here but if we did, it would get a 10/10 with no questions asked. It really is that good!

Head on over to Clove for pricing and of course we will confirm with you when the white version is in stock.

Tesco to offer free Wi-Fi in stores

Tesco-Logo-Colour

This sounds pretty good. Tesco are the first UK supermarket to be trialing free in store Wi-Fi. This will allow shoppers to browse the web on tablets and laptops while in the shop which could come in jolly handy if your wife/girlfriend takes as long shopping as mine does!

Many large supermarkets are prone to have black spots so another benefit here will be if you have a UMA enabled Smartphone.

A Tesco spokesperson said:

‘We are currently running trials for the new service in four of our stores and if it proved successful it will then be rolled out quickly across all our UK chains.’

Lets hope the other supermarket chains follow suit.

HTC open Negotiations with Apple

Apple-v-HTCMore news in the on-going saga of Apple vs HTC and today it would see a slight change of tone for HTC. Yesterday CEO Peter Chou took a fairly aggressive stance when asked about HTC’s intentions where Apple were concerned using words like ‘war’ when talking about smartphone dominance and saying that HTC ‘Will win’ the battle.

But today it’s a more diplomatic message from the HTC camp this time with a few comments from CFO Winston Yung. Yung say’s that this company, HTC, are willing to negotiate a deal with Apple over the current patent claims and added that ‘We have to sit down and figure it out. We’re open to having discussions’ and ‘We are open to all sorts of solutions, as long as the solution and the terms are fair and reasonable. On and off we’ve had discussions with Apple, even before the initial determination came out’

However, if HTC agree a deal with Apple then this does rather leave other Android OEM’s in a rather precarious position, after all it’s not just HTC that are allegedly infrindging upon Apple’s patents and if HTC choose not to make a stand this could spell disaster for the smaller companies that may be unable to to pay fees or to fight an expensive patent war.
