Google Android Honeycomb revealed, tablets only

honeycomb-android-illustrationThis week it’s CES, and Google have finally come out after endless rumours about the next Android release, Honeycomb 3.0. The major bite of news is that it will only be for tablets – there won’t be a phone, even the Nexus series, that will run 3.0. Phones will stick with Gingerbread and skip to the next release.

Honeycomb’s UI has been reworked for larger screen and higher resolution tablet devices which is good considering that previous versions of Android haven’t really been the most intuitive for use on tablets. Only the browser and Gmail app remain somewhat familiar, with the UI getting a needed overhaul. Hopefully this will mean there will be less compatibility issues that have shown with the same operating system on both phones and tablets, making the overall experience (as well as the UI) much more tablet friendly. Now I’m sure I’m not the only one expecting awesome iPad competitors!

Check out the video of Honeycomb in action after the break.

Sony Ericsson to launch the Xperia Arc?

sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-gagadget

The word on the street is that Sony Ericsson are to unveil a rather nice new phone tonight at CES. If true, it would appear that SE have really got there act together and produced what looks to be a super new device in the Xperia range, called the Arc.

gagadget.com released the leak earlier today and seem very confident that they have details correct. If so, then the Sony Ericsson Arc will have the following specs.

With a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, 4.2 inch 854×480 display, HD video capture and an 8 megapixel camera the Arc measures only 8.7mm at its narrowest part. Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread the device will be upgradable to Honeycomb which is a major leap forward for Sony Ericsson as long as the updates don’t take forever to arrive.

Hopefully we should get the official word from Sony Ericsson sometime tonight and we will post the official press release here in the morning.

gagadget.com have posted a video of the Sony Ericsson Arc onto Youtube. You can view the video by clicking here.

Future Android Tablets… from the future

tabletsWith Christmas over Google have managed to push their 2.3 Nexus S out the door, with specs not as high as one was expecting brings us to the point were we can examine the future of Android. Whilst many will no doubt be a little disappointed at the specs of the Nexus S it has brought hope to this happy blogger. Nexus S will get Android 3.0, without a doubt. Therefore Android 3.0 will not require as much in the was of hardware as some had believed. The likelihood of getting an upgrade to 2.3 and 3.0 for a current device has never looked brighter, depending on your manufacturer of course.

However, you might have held off buying an Android flavoured tablet and if so then read on to see what will be coming in the next few months.

Samsung sells 10 million Galaxy S phones worldwide

galaxys-main_2The Galaxy S has only been available for around 7 months (since June 2010) yet the superphone with the mammoth spec sheet has reached a global sales total of 10 million. Us Europeans contributed to roughly a quarter of those, with the USA topping it at 4 million. Samsung did set itself a target of 10 million, which has been reached (according to Samsung Electronics) at an average speed of one sold every two seconds!

If you’ve forgotten, the Galaxy S does have a few variants across the globe, but they all share the same basic features like the 4 inch Super AMOLED display and a super speedy 1GHz processor – you can click here to read our views on it.
