James and Matt appear on the convertcast

Justanothergeeksite

Recently Matt and I were lucky enough to be asked onto another podcast, this one with our friends Alli Flowers and Jerry Gold from over there in the USA.

If you have not heard the convertcast before you really should check it out. Alli and Jerry are great people and extremely knowledgeable about most things tech. Alli’s site justanothergeeksite.com is where the convertcast is hosted but you can also find it on iTunes.

This week we talked about the following subjects:

  • The old Mac vs. PC debate. Jerry’s not the only one who’s been drinking deeply from the Kool-Aid
  • Blackberries, Blackberries, Blackberries
  • Where is RIM going?
  • Flash.Skyfire anyone?
  • Dead Folders Society – what’s in your folder?
  • Windows Phone 7 – where will the WP7 users come from, who will be the big loser?

Why not head on over and have a listed? You may well want to subscribe. It’s quite good you know!

HTC HD7 unboxing video

HD7-main

The HTC HD7 is the biggest of all the UK Windows Phone 7 devices and although its specs are pretty on par with all the others its 4.3 inch screen will be its selling pint so if you are into media then this may well be the Windows Phone for you.

It may well be too big for some though. The HTC HD2 and HTC Desire HD that we reviewed were also monster phones and if truth be told a little too large for me.

Lets see how Matt’s giant hands cope with it in the unboxing video below.

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Review

BlackBerry Bold 9780 reviewAvailable in both black and white the BlackBerry Bold 9780 is the follow on from the popular 9700 although if you saw my unboxing video you will know that there is not too many things that have changed regarding hardware. A better camera and more memory always help but it is the operating system that excites me most. The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is the first non touch BlackBerry to launch here in the UK with BlackBerry 6.

Sure, I have used it on the Torch but the Bold 9780 will outsell the Torch (so I think) and as far as I am concerned this will be RIMs number one business device for the near future.

Is it worth upgrading or going an buying now? You will have to read on for my opinions.

Samsung Galaxy Tab announced by Orange and Vodafone

Galaxy-Tab-001

Both Orange and Vodafone have announced they will be selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The 7 inch Android device will not give you much change out of £500 but it certainly looks pretty nice. Both networks are offering a selection of data plans ranging from one month to twelve month contract length.

You can see the Vodafone plans here.

You can see the Orange plans here.

Conor from Orange has recorded a short video of him using the Galaxy Tab. You can see the video after the break.

We of course will have a full review of the device in the near future.

Nokia X3-02 unboxing video

Nokia_X3-02-white Here I have another unboxing for you and this time it is of another Nokia X3 but this one is aptly named the Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type, I say aptly simply because it has both a touch screen interface as well as an alphanumerical keypad go boot so you get the best of both worlds with this device.

Nokia do seem to like their reiteration of names for their handsets because it was only in february this year that they released their first X3 which was an XpressMusic phone, now what’s special about this device is that it is Nokia’s first ever Touch and Type phone with an alphanumerical keypad as opposed to the QWERTY on such devices as the new C6, but what is also very interesting about the X3-02 is the fact it’s Nokia’s first touch screen phone to have Symbian Series 40 which suggests that they strongly believe that this device will do well in the market.

The handset has a relatively small touch screen display at 2.4" and it’s also resistive so we shall have to see if it is good enough to waistband the pressure from other devices in the market at the moment.

As usual the full review will be online in the next couple of weeks hut for now take a look at the below unboxing video and enjoy.

Archos 101 Internet Tablet unboxing

ARCHOS_101_it_ambianceThe Archos 101 is a much anticipated Android tablet. Whilst Samsung occupy the high end of the market with the £500 Galaxy Tab and an endless slew of cheap and nasty tablets invade from every other company looking to make a buck Archos focuses on a mid-range that is going to appeal to the majority.

The 101 is named as such due to it’s huge WXVGA 10.1″ LCD screen. the device boast quite an eye catching spec list including a front facing webcam, Android 2.2 Froyo (not implemented yet), 1ghz processor, 3D openGL, 8 or 16gb on-board storage, video and audio codecs for pretty much everything and a handy kickstand.

Have a look at the extended unboxing below and keep your eye peeled for further video demos in the future. I shall be leaving the review until 2.2 Froyo arrives in the next couple of weeks.

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Unboxing Video

BlackBerry 9780

I was lucky enough to be given the new BlackBerry Bold by RIM today for review. The new 9780’s hardware is not that different to its predecessor, the 9700, but we do get a few improvements.

First off is the camera, now a 5 megapixel. Next we get a memory upgrade to 512mb. And best off all the Bold 9780 comes with BlackBerry 6. This is the first non touch screen BlackBerry to launch here in the UK with the new OS.

What I can say is that although the 9780 is not revolutionary, it is a breath of fresh air and I am so looking forward to using it for the next week or two.

Check out the unboxing video below and keep your eyes peeled for a further demo video over the next few days. Oh, and not forgetting the full review which will be with us soon.
