Are you a Rugby Fan? How about watching it in 3D then?!

O2 are the sponsors of England Rugby and have just announced the live screenings of England’s home RBS 6 Nations games taking place at 40 Odeon and Cineworld cinemas across England. This is in order to celebrate 100 years of rugby at Twickenham Stadium, and as the title of this news item suggests – they will be in 3D!

I know this is a bit of a digression from technology (and I don’t even like rugby!), but I thought that this may interest some of you out there!

Vodafone claim more than 50,000 iPhones delivered to customers today

image Via Vodafone’s official Twitter account they claim to have delivered over 50,000 iPhones to customers today, my wife’s unfortunately is stuck with Parcel Force as they claim the weather was too bad to deliver it, going to collect it tomorrow just in case we get any more snow.

Anyway it still amazes me how popular this device is when you compare it to the recent Google Nexus One figures just out.

Terry O’Brien talks about the launch day for the iPhone on Vodafone UK from the Oxford Street store below:-

Vodafone UK CEO Guy Laurence confirmed that it would be delivering over 50,000 iPhones to customers on its first day of selling the device. He said the main reason for the exceptional demand was customers wanting to use the phone on its outstanding network.

The guys over at fonehomeuk have kindly posted a comparison chart allowing you to see which carrier will give you the best deal. The deals are pretty close.

Let the battle commence!

HTC HD2 SMS update Again

Good news for those of you still experiencing SMS issues on your new(-ish) HTC HD2 handsets for today HTC have made another SMS update available.

The “Update for HTC HD2 – New SMS Function Update” can be downloaded from the HTC support site and promises to help rectify issues regarding SMS.

This update for HTC HD2 messaging lets you reach out to your friends and family with instant notifications. Keeping in touch has always been very important, and this update delivers just that: fast and reliable SMS messaging.

The update does appear to be some kind of hot-fix not requiring a hard reset of the device but as with any of these updates it’s probably a good idea to make sure that you do have a backup of any important data just in case!

If you are an HD2 owner and you’ve been having SMS issues we’d love to hear from you both before and after this update!

Another Nokia N900 Update

We told you earlier in the week about an over the air update for the Nokia N900 that would allow access to the Ovi Store. Now Nokia are releasing another update today which brings some welcomed updates.

This time around we’ve got full support for Swiss keyboard layouts, better compatibility with 3-branded SIM cards, support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 in the handset’s Mail for Exchange service, and a handful of performance and usability tweaks for Ovi Maps.

Good news for “3” customers. Will the network start selling the N900? Fingers crossed.

LG BL20 unboxing video

Back at the beginning of December last year we reviewed the first of a new line of LG Chocolate phones, the LG BL40. It was a pretty unusual form-factor with a 4″ full 21:9 cinematic widescreen display and at just under 11mm thick it invited such comments as ‘It looks like a TV remote’!

LG have taken the same design ideas, such as the smooth glossy black screen and metallic red accents and have applied all of that to a slim slider-styly handset and have come up with the LG BL20 ‘New Chocolate’.

I think, overall, the LG BL20 and the BL40 before it, are attractive looking handsets, the red and black does work well and when the screen is off or in standby the front looks almost totally black. The BL20 isn’t touchscreen though but uses a touch sensitive area below the screen for the majority of system and menu navigation. For input there’s the sliding numeric keypad which is also a stylish red colour.

As always, I’ve taken the time to unbox and tour the handset before it gets the full review treatment. Have a look at the video below for a brief tour of the handset and the OS.
