HTC HD2 Stylus, Extended Battery and Car Kit

You may have seen on a few other sites that HTC will make a capacitive stylus available for the HTC HD2, presumably for the Asian markets where handwriting recognition is more popular than in Europe or the USA, this sounds quite plausible as we have seen styli for the iPhone on sale in the US recently.

We’ve heard that there will also be a dedicated car kit available for the HD2 which we assume will nicely make use of the car kit option in the settings menu on the HD2.

Another point that you may have also heard elsewhere is that there will be an official extended battery for the HTC HD2 and what you may not have heard elsewhere is that said battery, and larger battery cover will include a ‘kick-stand’ that will allow you to stand the HD2 on a desk or table in landscape mode which is a really cool idea. However, we’ve been told that the HD2 will not fit in the official car kit with the extended battery which is a bit of a shame, but I guess if you have a car kit you will have the HD2 on charge more often than not.

We’re trying to get official confirmation from HTC and get some pictures of these accessories and we’ll share them with you as soon as we get them!

Don’t forget to have a look at our full HTC HD2 review.

SPB Time updated to 3.0

time_3

SPB Software, a leading maker of mobile applications, announces the release of SPB Time 3.0, a major update to the best-selling Windows Mobile time toolset. The updated version offers a completely new, reconsidered user interface and significantly improved alarm features. SPB Time 3.0 provides user with three different types of alarms to fit any needs. Paranoid alarm is designed to wake up deep sleepers while Bio alarm does its job in a very gentle way. Classic alarm is a good solution for those who don’t believe in biorhythms and do not want to be disturbed too much in the morning time.
A lot of features were reworked in the design aspect. For example, "World Time" feature is presented as a realistic looking 3D model of the Earth with chosen cities designated as spots on the surface. Countdown screen is supplemented with a picture of sandglass where the sand pours out as time goes. The splendour of these interface solutions are accompanied by a vast choice of skins in an online catalog.
SPB Time 3.0 is also one of the company’s Windows Mobile applications that is able to make use of SPB Mobile Shell’s widget system. Four widgets are available for those who already have Mobile Shell version 3.5.1 and higher: City Time, Moon Phase, Next Alarm and Stop Watch.

O2’s HTC HD2 SIM-locked?

A few days ago we told you that HTC HD2 was now available on the O2 network here in the UK, something that was pretty popular with many of you!

HTC HD2

HOWEVER, a word of warning to any of you thinking about getting the HD2 via O2, we are hearing reports for various sources that and HD2 acquired through O2 will be SIM-locked to the O2 network! So you cant get the HD2 and use it on another network without getting it unlocked, and at this moment in time there is no unlock for the HD2, not that we know of anyway, please correct me if I am wrong!

If you are an O2 customer with the HD2 and are able to confirm this please do let us know, I have contacted O2 but have no official response so far. I’ll keep you posted!

Samsung ST550 unboxing video

It’s been a little while since we last reviewed a digital camera here on the site and even longer since we looked at one from Samsung. Last week Samsung sent us over the Samsung ST550 digital camera, a good looking piece of kit but with an innovative ‘trick’ up its sleeve (or lens).

The Samsung ST550 digital camera

The Samsung ST550 digital camera

Not only is the ST550 well specified in the lens and sensor department, with a 4.6x optical zoom, 12 megapixel sensor and 3.5″ touchscreen on the rear but the ST550’s real party piece is the forward facing LCD screen right next to the lens. When you first see this in action you realise what a simple idea it is and wonder why on earth it’s never been done before. How many times have you tried to take a picture of yourself with friends or family holding the camera at arms-length to take shot? Well this makes the process a little easier!

The forward LCD isn’t just limited to live view mode though either, it can also display a count-down for the self timer or display a smiley face when you are about to take the picture, idea for taking pictures of kids!

We’ll be looking at the Samsung ST550 over the coming weeks and will have a review online for you soon. For now, have a look at the unbox for a quick tour of the camera.
