A commercial network launched in Amsterdam on Tuesday is the first in Europe to use a mobile version of the Wimax standard to allow users to surf the Web at high speeds while on the move, operator Worldmax said.
The broadband wireless network is aimed at competing with telecoms operators KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile, the privately held Dutch firm said.
An iPhone version of Adobe’s ubiquitous Flash plug-in is still early into development, the company has admitted. In an earnings call for Adobe’s second financial quarter, CEO Shantanu Narayen has responded to questions on if and when Flash will be ready for the iPhone 3G, which itself is only expected to ship on July 11th. Apple has long blocked the normal desktop version of Flash from the iPhone, insisting that it consumes too much battery power.
Consumer interest in the 3G iPhone is almost four times more than interest in its 2G predecessor, according to O2, Apple’s exclusive UK network partner for the device.
More than 130,000 people have pre-registered their interest in the combined handset, digital music player and web browser on O2’s website since the phone was unveiled a week ago.
DivX, Inc. today announced a licensing agreement with Advanced Micro Devices, a driving force behind processing solutions for nearly 40 years. This agreement will bring DivX video technology to AMD Imageon application processors, extending existing licensing and certification relationships between the two companies.
AMD Imageon application processors are designed to power a range of handheld multimedia devices, including next-generation mobile phones and smartphones. AMD is a leading supplier of media processors to the handheld market with nearly 250 million AMD Imageon media processors shipped to date.
“Including the DivX codec in the AMD Imageon application processor brings additional value to our OEM customers, helping them to deliver a robust mobile media experience,” said Mark Bapst, CTO for AMD’s Handheld division. “DivX technology is an attractive ingredient that enhances our offering for handheld devices, providing excellent quality and a high degree of accessibility.”
“We’re pleased to work with AMD to enable consumers to enjoy their video content on any kind of device, in the living room or on the go,” said Patrice LaGrange, Vice President and Group Business Manager, Media Languages, DivX, Inc. “With our mobile certification program, we are extending the digital media experience to the mobile environment by bringing the high-quality digital video experience consumers have come to expect on their PC and in the living room to a variety of phones and handheld devices.”
The two companies will work together to achieve DivX Certification for the AMD Imageon A250 application processor. Products that bear the DivX Certified logo have undergone a rigorous testing program to ensure a high-quality DivX media experience, including reliable video playback, interoperability with other DivX Certified devices and the visual quality users expect from DivX.

The guys over at MobiFrance managed to get some hands on time with the new Samsung Windows Mobile Omnia i900 professional device.
The video shows some great UI enhancements and overlays but again we are seeing a lack of response from the touch screen when you select icons. Check out the video after the break.
Vodafone seem to be the first UK network to announce the HTC Touch Diamond on their website. If you visit Vodafone UK you’ll find the Touch Diamond in their ‘Coming Soon’ Section.

As you can see from the clipping above, Vodafone are now expecting a July launch. I don’t suppose the oher 4 networks will be too far behind with a similar announcement, I’ve been keeping an eye on Orange for the past few weeks so I’ll let you know the minute I notice any changes!

European mobile phone users may have to pay US-style charges for receiving calls after Viviane Reding, the EU telecoms commissioner, said she was prepared to accept the industry changing its longstanding business model.
In an interview with the Financial Times, she signalled she was poised to propose rules to cut the cost for Europeans when sending text messages while abroad. She is considering taking similar steps to cut the cost of web surfing on mobiles while overseas.
