HTC Kasier rumour roundup

This week saw a large number of new rumours about the long awaited HTC Kaiser.

The first relates to a potential name change for the HTC Kaiser/P4550 and suggests that the device will be released under a different name – the HTC TyTN II. HTC wont confirm or deny this name change but it has been voiced elsewhere that the name TyTN II refers to a different device altogether.

Later we heard that the HTC Kaiser is due for launch throughout Europe on the 8th September. This would be good news but for the fact that the 8th September is a Saturday so therefore this seems like an unlikely date.

The final piece of news relates to the US launch of the HTC Kaiser. We already ‘know’ that the device is coming to AT&T as the ‘AT&T Tilt’ but further information from CrunchGear states that they have an ‘inside source’ and that “the AT&T Tilt (aka 8925 aka Kaiser) hits stores September 3rd for $499 with 2-year plan.”

If the above is true then $499 (just about £250) seems like a reasonable price to pay for a device as well featured and powerful as the HTC Kaiser. Mind you – I’m not sure that a two year contract will be everyone’s cup of tea!

EDIT: You can see our TyTN II review HERE.

Skype now available for Nokia N800

Back in July when we posted our review of the Nokia N800 internet tablet there were only a few IM client options available for the device. However, a version of Skype has now been released specifically for the Nokia N800.

    Skype for N800

    Skype for N800

The Skype client really does make the N800 into a much better connected device and a more tempting prospect. The software for the N800 allows you to transfer files, as well as have text and voice conversations with your contacts. I’m not sure if it will support video calls though.

You can download the N800 version of Skype from the Skype Website.

Another day, another new HTC device?

According to the smartmobilegadgets blog, this is the first picture of the HTC Artemis beater – Polaris.

    HTC Polaris?

Not too dissimilar then, but the way the spec sheet is looking, the could be one of the most powerful and feature-packed devices we’ve seen.

    Drool over this…

  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional
  • 3.5″ VGA screen
  • 256 ROM / 128MB RAM
  • Qualcomm MSM7200 @ 400 MHz
  • WCDMA 2100 MHz, HSDPA 3.6 Mbps
  • EDGE/ GSM/GPRS, quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
  • Bluetooth
  • Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g
  • GPS/AGPS
  • Digital compass
  • FM radio
  • 3 megapixel camera with auto focus
  • miniUSB, USB 1.1
  • MicroSD expansion
  • If all of the above manages to make it to the final design spec, I may even be tempted away from the QWERTY loveliness of the Kaiser!

Exclusive HTC devices coming to Orange?

I do not normally post rumours but I heard this nugget from a couple of unconnected sources so I thought I would share it!

The ‘news’ goes a something like this: Orange are allegedly working with HTC to release some new and exclusive devices that will only appear on the Orange network. These mystery devices are said to have unique form factor and never seen before specification.

So what sort of devices could we expect? Could it/they be based upon the HTC Kaiser or maybe more like the HTC Shift devices? Who knows, it could be something totally differnt!?

As I said, this is all unconfirmed speculation. I’ll be asking Orange to comment but doubt that they will confirm or deny the rumour. However if you know anything else then please do let us know!

HTC P4550 / Kaiser rebrands as TyTN II?

HTC are to call their long-awaited Kaiser device the ‘HTC TyTN II’. At least if you like to believe net rumours! It does seem likely though, and the source is apparently from an HTC certification request. It was to have been released as the ‘HTC P4550’, but since the media and punters alike were refering to it as the successor to the TyTn, it does seem to be a understandable change.

Since the TyTN was so successful for HTC, I’m sure they are also hoping for increased sales for their new mass market device.

The latest information on releases, is that the TyTN II will almost certainly be on Vodafone, and will probably be on Orange, T-Mobile and o2. It’s unclear at present as to whether it will be an SPV branded device on the Orange network.

HTC Kaiser (P4550 / HTC TyTN II) Latest Specification:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional
  • 2.8″ QVGA LCD Touchscreen
  • 256 MB ROM – 128MB RAM
  • Qualcomm 400MHz CPU
  • GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS800, UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100
  • CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA
  • 802.11b/g WiFi
  • Built-in spring-loaded QWERTY-type keyboard
  • microSD memory card slot
  • Bluetooth 2
  • 3.0 megapixel auto-focus camera
  • AGPS
  • USB 2.0
  • 58 x 110 x 18mm
  • 160 grams
  • TouchFlo included!
  • The last bullet is interesting. Contary to earlier reports, the TyTN II will support TouchFlo, but the rumour is that this will actually be a cut down version. The reason for this is down to the standard touch screen. The HTC Touch had a highly sensitive and specially strengthened screen to enable the advanced features. Currently, the TyTN II does not.

EDIT: You can order the TyTN II now and get £10 off the purchase price. Details HERE.
